They have the required cable for the 8 head unit? It's not listed on the compatibility chart.
It would disable the cd-changer too I guess.

I can't tell you how many times I've hit the steering wheel control to change the song and it changes the station because I'm iPod-connected. I hate when I do that!

PHEE:

Can you explain a little clearer please, not sure what you mean by changing the station. Do you mean you'r trying to change the IPOD track, then the station changes?

Not to threadjack but .. has anyone tried the FM iPOD adapter ? Or is this not as cool an option as the ones being discussed now? I just want my MP3's in my car, as a phase 1. :D

Yes I have tried it (it's called ITRIP )and its not bad in Los Angeles but it horrible in other areas like San Francisco. SO the only real solution is hard wire.

Exactly - if you use the steering wheel control. Using the iPod adapter with the outlet in your console, you have to tune your car stereo to 88.1. So when trying to change the song, I still need to use the iPod to do so, and not my steering wheel control. I've just gotten so spoiled......

I'm in San Jose, but I frequent SF and southern SF quite often ... so, I've purchased enough lemon gadgets in my lifetime and you just saved me yet another gadget in the garbage moment

You could always just hack the crap out of the head unit like this:

LOL

My PIE works fine for $100

Getting this

Guys-

Just bit the bullet and called up the site. They said that for my configuration (6 CD changer, NO nav unit), the unit IS compatible. They also say that it will work with the steering wheel controls, no additional futzing required. $230 shipped second day air here to Hawaii. Will let you all know how it works after I get it and install it.

I'm sorry for the questions, I invested in an iPOD for the car really .. so I'm kinda excited to see it actually work for our car and charge the thing too

THERE IS ALREADY A SOLUTION...granted there is only one working solution at the moment but whatever...here we go

1. Buy Maz/Alp PIE adaptor (don't need the extra aux in cabling)

2. Buy Denison Icelink Dock Cradle or Dock Cable (not the vehicle specific one...just the decoder/connector to the ipod)...(for older ipods you need the classic connection icelink...and will need to power it seperately)

3. Make sure your HU is ver 9.55 or higher (or you will have weird problems)...if you don't there is a guy who can upgrade it for you (PM me for the details)

Okay...now this is not shown in the guide...DISCONNECT THE BATTERY by using a 10mm deep socket wrench (the same one you will use for the hidden bolt) and loosening the NEGATIVE terminals, then move the cabling for the negative terminal away from the terminal

then use http://www.whatsmyip.org/ipodrx8/ to take the HU out...in the guide the location of the circle ISN"T where the bolt is...just look at the bolt that would be right up against the side of the HU and there is a funny looking piece of ABS plastic that is shaped like a U that the bolt is bolted to

one HUGE tip...so you don't loose that damn bolt...just loosen it with the deep socket wrench with extender on...then use your fingers to carefully remove it (or it will be lost in the nether regions of the car)

connect the PIE adaptor to the extra plug (you can also hide the PIE adaptor where the TAPE or MD deck would go...or place it somewhere else)

Then take the denison icelink dock cradle/cable and PLUG it into the PIE adaptor...run the denison cable/dock cable wherever you wish (into the glove box, under the center console and into the cup holders or the 'hidden' compartment behind the cup holders, whatever you wish)

Put everything back together like the guide says...reconnect the negative terminals on the battery...tighten the 10mm nut on the battery terminal

THen start up you car, if you have DSC it will be blinking and you might freak out...don't worry, turn the steering wheel all the way to the right, then all the way to the left...you just calibrated the DSC, then turn of the car, and restart it you are done!

To use the device just plug the ipod in...it will sit there charging when the car is on...and switch to 'ex 1' do this by pressing the CD button twice

HELPFUL PICTURES:

here is the denison DOCK CABLE:

and here is the DOCK CRADLE:
