Alternate Installs for Zeta Armrest Pad?

Alternate Installs for Zeta Armrest Pad?
Hi Guys,
After procrastinating for several weeks, I finally tried placing the Zeta armrest console pad in my 8 today- without actually installing it. And, I have to say that I really like how it feels/ looks/ fits. It adds just the right height to the console to support your right arm for shifting and is soft & comfortable.
HOWEVER, I'm extremely disappointed & a bit pissed off about the glue + velcro installation they provided and fear what damage this will do to the original OEM console. (This definitely wasn't clarified in the pre-order info.)
As such, I want to look for an alternate installation method- ie something that doesn't put permanent GLUE on my OEM armrest. and, i'm wondering if anyone here has the same feeling and has experimented with alternate installation methods yet- ie something that grips firmly but comes off clean.
I was thinking about trying the Scotch/ 3m removable 2-sided tape. it probably won't grip as firmly as the velcro. but, am wondering how that would work.
Any thoughts, feedback, and suggestions (what works/ doesn't work) from anyone who also bought this pad and has tried alternate install methods would be appreciated.
Thanks,
D

I had one on my prior RX-8. When I took it off when I sold it, the glue remaining on the original sliding armrest came off with a little bit of water on a towel. It didn't leave any residue. Go ahead and use it as it came in the box. It doesn't damage the original armrest.

Why take it off? It seems useless on any car other than rx8 (unless you are planning on buying another rx8). You will have to replace the console cover at some point anyway because the button and sliders suck and will break (btw, my stealership didn't care that I had two velcro strips stuck on when I had my console cover replaced the 2nd time... working on the 3rd now :D).
