AM Antenna Issue

Apparently, the AM portion of my antenna doesn't work. As best i can tell everything is connected but does anyone know if/where any ground or power lead for the antenna would be? It's connected properly on the rear window and connected right under the dash but I don't know if something got undone during the rebuild of the car.

Am I the only one who wonders why you need an AM antennae?

Well it worked with an aftermarket HU for a couple years until a lot of internal wiring was replaced as a result of a fire. Long story short, afterwards I had FM but not AM from the factory antenna lead. If I hook up an external antenna of any sort I will get varying levels of AM reception depending on where I hold the antenna inside the car. So its not the radio (and it's been three separate HUs at this point). I'm thinking it's a ground but I've no idea where without tearing apart the interior (again). The only alternative would be to get one of those powered antennas and stick at the top of the windshield or something and the reception and noise level is not what it would be with the rear window antenna.
