Ambient Temperature Reading..?

Sensor......
I find it quite accurate, but the sensor is low at the front, so can read road temp, or radiator air temp if you aren't moving.
The pickup is in the front grille, low on the drivers side, looks like a black pen cap.

actually it is quite accurate...BUT you need to give it a few minutes to move up and down to the correct temp...you will find that the reading when you turn on the car is what it was prior to turning off the car, this will change

Mine is extremely accurate- on my 25mile drive to work I pass several banks with the temp on their sign, and mine usually matches theirs. I also noticed yesterday as I drove home it was indicating the weather perfectly - as the rain turned to snow it dropped from 38 to 34, and then then the snow stayed snow when it landed it had dropped to 32.

RESURRECTION!!
When I pulled the car in the garage today the ambient temp read 100 degrees. I shut the car off and went on piddling around in the garage. Garage doesn't have A/C so I turned on two fans to circulate some air. About an hour and a half later I had to run to the store. Turned the car back on and it still read 100. I know it was not 100 in the garage. Didn't move the whole way to the store and back.
I guess I'm wondering if these sensors can go bad.... well of course they can tig! . But how would you know? Innacurate readings? No ambient temp reading at all? dramatic fluctuations? anyone know?

The cold air thing is a good idea... maybe I'll move mine back so it can tell me the temp of my amp or something like that... or brakes... now we are talking... something actually useful!

I find mine to be fairly accurate when I first start out, but then it reads way high when driving around. I wouldn't be surprised for it to be skewed by heat from the engine bay or radiator when stationary, but I also see it read +5F to +15F when driving around. This weekend I drove over 500 miles from NY to PA to DC and back and I finally just switched it off because it bore no resemblance at all to reality.

A few weeks ago when it was in the 90's here in DC, my car was parked in the sun and when I got in the car the temp read 108 F. I'm glad I can now find this sensor and put it somewhere more useful.
