Is this amp any good?

MTX Thunder5400x Amplifier 5 channel. I have a friend that can get these whloesale price for me, about half off on the retail price. Just wondering what you guys think, because I know nothing about car audio. I have a Bose system in my 8, and I think it really sucks. My Honda Accrod sounds better and it's kinda sad :p

Will you be using it to power your stock speakers? If so, there's better ways to spend your money...subwoofer, tweeters, etc..

If I had about 1,500 - 2,000 to spend, what would be a smart buy? or should I just save up more money?

Oh you already have a sub...ok.

First I'd add tweeters to the front, where those 2 1/2" midrange speakers are. Either add tweeters (there's a DIY) to the existing setup, or just replace the midranges with tweeters. I actually replaced the midranges since I wanted the car to appear stock, and not scream "break into me!". Some tweeters have as low and much higher freq response than those crappy midranges, anyway.

That's my suggestion! :D

Why would you need another amp for your sub? The current one isn't powerful enough?

I don't have the amp yet, but my friend told me he can get if half off the SRP. I was just wondering if I would be wasteing my money buying an amp like that. I'm getting ready to buy all my stuff, and I don't have the subs yet. My friend also told me I would be ok with just getting two 10" subs. I Listen to a lot of Rock and trance music, so for the rock music I wan nice clear sounds with good highs. for the trance, I want that hard hitting bass.

I only have one 10" sub with 4080s custom rx-8 box, and it sounds great (in my opinion). I like tight base though, and not deep, boomy (for lack of a better word) base. A friend of mine had 4 12s and that was way too insane for me. I listen to a lot of genres, but definitely some trance and d&b.

So yeah, for an audio upgrade path, I'd do:
(1) sub(s)
(2) tweeters
(3) replace 6x9s in the back

Just my opinion, of course

A lot of power does not equate to a good amp. There are amps claiming 1000watts rms(just a claim & not CEA rated) for $100 & there are amps that does 50watts rms x2 chanels of clean power that are $1000+. MTX is a SPL in mind company & they are not known for SQ.

Also I left out Phoenix Gold.It used to be one of the best but the company due to financial problems are not where they were use to be.Well they made arguebly one of the best & cleanest sounding amps ever made & also only one was ever made(the Phoenix Gold MPH 6300 retailed at $99,000)

They are still own by the same family(the son of the founder runs things now, he's also the one that's been blame for the downfall of Phoenix Gold) but there are rumors that they might file for bankruptsy in the near future then to sell out to a big company.

So the Eclipse amp is really good? If you compair it close to McIntosh I would think so. I have McItosh home reciver and I really love it. I would love to have their stuff in my car, but after fixing up my home audio with their stuff, I have to say it left me kinda poor My home audio sounds better then going to the theaters :D

Ahhh young grasshopper, a Macintosh of today is a far cry from a Macintosh from years gone by....... many things happened to this line when Clarion purchased them some years back. Yes Eclipse makes stellar amps. They are a country of best origin manufacturer. Matter of fact I have the Bang & Olfsen designed Eclipse DA7232 amp on my counter right now. The RX8 we are working on will be using Audison amplifiers due to their nice small size, exceptional build quality and capability in the system.

Good to hear that someone has a stellar home theatre setup, now just bring me your car for 3 weeks and let me turn it into a mobile theatre for you.

No amp is ever worth $99,000. Who buys these amps. They must have an infinite amount of disposable income.

The only thing that could make this RX8's audio system sound better than Audison amps.... is Focal speakers all the way around (save for the subs).

The EA3532 is a great amplifier PROVIDED that you only have a 4 ohm load on the sub channel. The PA5532 is the better of the two 5 channel amplifiers and it is what I would choose out of the two, matter of fact it is my favorite 5 channel amplifier. It looks like the model #'s you listed were somehow mixed up.

You don't understand that this is a custom hand built one of a kind amplifier to showoff their technology. The heatsink itself on the amplifier cost over $10k.Only one was ever built. They will never sell it either even though they had offers about $300k because it's their technology statement.
