How about a small nuclear reactor. That w7 needs a lot of power.

Does JL still make the 1/1000 mono amp?

Probably going to need at least 1000 watts since it sounds like you have more than one.

Since the 8 is pretty limited in space, especially if you have your box setup with proper airspace for multiple W7s then something like the Alpine PDX 1.1000 is a good bet. JL 1000/1 is a great amp, but if you have ever seen it its pretty damn big, about twice the size of the PDX.

Oh. I should of stated i have 2 W7s. Is the AMP worth the price??

Sort of pricey...but if the quality is worth it i would go for it..is it?

get the JL 1000/1, you will not be disapointed. Its big, but it has to be to handle the amount aof heat that is generated when you are making that much power. If you are putting all this in your 8 you can expect it to be scary loud. sounds like fun. Link: http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...+1000-1v2.html

Edit: I just looked at that Alpine and it looks pretty good too. I would be woried about heat dissapation (sp?) but it looks like they have that figured out. The price is similar so I think either way you can't go wrong. Alpine for a little less: http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...DX-1.1000.html

One last thought. You need to be carefull with your W7's they come in both 3 ohm (13" ver) and 1.5 ohm (8", 10", 12" ver) and you need to keep that in mind when selecting an amp. The Alpine does not appear to be stable below 2 ohms, the JL is good down to 1.5, but if you have two of the 1.5 om W7's and you wire them parallel to each other you end up with a set up that will be .75 ohm and that will damage either of these amps. Conversely if you have the 3 ohm speakers and you wire them in series then you will end up with a 6 ohm load, which will cut into you max power by a bit. Just figure out the resistance (ohm) of the speakers you have and post it here if you are not suer what to do.

Yes, the monoblocks will only have one set of outputs but you will not need two. That is where the series vs parallel wiring comes into play. What size W7 do youo have, and how old are they??

Or you could get two of these: http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...2+500-1v2.html

The W7's come in 3 ohm SVC or 1.5 ohm DVC. In other words, nearly the same thing. The 1000/1v2 is a nice amp, but pricey as all hell. Try two of the JL T1000.1 amps. More power, less money. They'll give you ~625WRMS per woofer nominal. Plus you'll have some headroom running it at 3 ohms when it's stable to 1. Versus maxing out the 1000/1 and getting ~500WRMS per woofer AND spending more money.

Of course you'd need to find room to mount these two amps, versus the one 1000/1...

Or if you step outside the JL Audio name brand, get a single higher power amp for them both:

US Amps

Kicker

Alpine

Soundstream

I have 2 12 inch W7s and they are practically brand new just bought recently. So basically i should buy a single higher power amp or two medium power amps?
Which would give out better quality + power?? disregarding price for now

how come the 1000/1v2 is 2 times pricier than the JLT1000.1 ?? Would it be quality??

I wouldn't mind stepping outside JLaudio if the quality of other brands would match it. Still heaps confused whether to go with a single strong amp or 2 amps.....

Thank you for all the helpful comments

One large amp will be much easier to mount in your car and easier to wire. Using two amps doesn't really give you any advantages if price is not a concern. I mentioned headroom regarding the two amp setup. Meaning with those specific amps, you wouldn't be pushing them to their max, and thereby, possibly sending a clipped signal/distortion to your subwoofers.

Honestly the more I think about it, it's going to be tough to mount two full size 1kWRMS amps with those W7s back there. Anything's possible, but it would take a little creative work. Which usually equals $$$$$. If it were my car, I'd probably go with a single amp just for simplicity. The 1000/1 is great, but is pricey and not nearly as powerful as some others for the money. US Amps has been known for hand-made high quality equipment for many years now. CanaryRX8 uses all Soundstream equipment. REAL nice show car setup.

Since you'll be running at a nominal load of 1.5 ohms, probably wisest idea to get a 1 ohm stable amp. I've ran several high power class D Kicker amps at 1 ohm, but they are not rated for that. I'd hate for you to spend money on something and have it not work out. So out of the mix, I say the soundstream amp. Soundstream is a solid brand name, and will give a a ton of power at 1.5 ohms. (~2100WRMS) That thing is an absolute animal.

You'll want to wire the two W7 to the amp like this:

Here's a good price on the JL 1000/1. I just bought a 500/1 from them a couple weeks ago, they even throw in an amp wiring kit.http://cgi.ebay.com/New-JL-Audio-100...item230363eb97

Have you thought about just going with a single W7? It would still hit uber-hard/loud. If your subs are new you could get most of your $$ out of the other one on ebay.

I thought about the same thing, but he said he already bought them. One 12" W7 in a properly built vented box with the 1000/1v2 would be nice. Don't get me wrong, two 12" W7s powered by 2,100WRMS would be all out redonkulous. lol

Yes, I personally would go with just one W7 in a good box, and the JL 1000/1v2. That is plenty of bass IMO. It's also really not good for your hearing as well as the optics in your eyeballs.

I've done setups with a JL500/1 with a W7 and that is sufficient. The JL amps are build like a tank and will last you many years.

Keep in mind that when trying to power a sub like that, you're going to need a good capacitor, and some thick, low-guage power wire. I would also put in some dynamat if you don't mind the bit of extra weight. You might even want to consider installing an upgraded alternator to handle that kind of current draw.

Can't say I disagree. I don't know what your objectives are as far as bass..... but one 12" W7 in a properly built vented box with 1kWRMS is going to pound damn well. And, as I've said, the 1000/1 is a great amp, no doubt about it. Also it needs to be noted, if you DO only use one sub, the 1000/1v2 is a must. With one subwoofer, you'll be running a 3 ohm nominal load. That particular amp is great for this.

Thoughts on the box design? You've got some VERY nice equipment lined up. Just let someone do a hack job on your install. Don't accept a plain rectangular box wedged in the trunk. Get something custom to the RX8. A custom built vented box with a 30-35Hz tune would be sweet. But expect to pay in the ~$300 ballpark for a wood box and ~$450-500 for a fiberglass box. Both very vague ballparks. Depends on exactly what you want done, etc.

Firebirddude, why would you go with a ported box? Aren't they mainly used to get more volume but = less SQ from not enough sub/amp? My last couple systems both used a 10w6 in a sealed box. I prefer tight, hard hitting bass.
The more I think about it, I hope inspir3 is going to upgrade the rest of his system as well. I would think that sub and amp combo would overpower the stock mids and highs, even if it's the Bose system.

Notice how I repeated said "properly built" or "properly designed" vented box. A low-tuned rock-solid ported box without air leaks will still yield great SQ. If you slap the W7 in one of those prebuilt/prefab $29.99 particle board boxes that are tuned to 45Hz or higher to satisfy all the ghetto boom-boom heads, then expect some sloppiness.

okays gnna go refund one sub and go with the 1000/1v2 + single sub. Would there be any particularly already built "low-tuned rock-solid ported box without air leaks". Cause i'd have no idea who to ask for a custom built one.
Must i upgrade the stock system too?? just the speakers??

Must you replace the speakers? You don't HAVE to. Not at this point at least. You won't be shooting yourself in the foot by installing the sub/amp now and waiting until later to replace the speakers. See how you like this setup. If you feel the need for more umph out of your interior speakers, then work on the $$$ to replace them.

Again, you've got a hot *** car and some high quality equipment. Don't cheap out on the install. Take the car to a local mom and pop audio shop and ask what they can build for you. If you're not 100% completely confident in their response, take it somewhere else. Ask to see photos of previous installs they've done. Ask about their experience working with fiberglass. I've found that the shops who refuse to work with fiberglass tend to be less experienced all around. Although they get the job done and it may look clean, they usually only build basic plain boxes with zero creativity involved. People who get excited and start dreaming up ideas are the ones you want to talk to. Ask for a full fiberglass low-tuned ported box to begin with (30Hz is a great place to be). Then based on their response and the $$$ involved, throttle it back from there. If they look at you like you've got two heads, take your car elsewhere.

to answer your question on the box - If you're looking for excellent build quality, built specificially to the specifications of your sub, I highly recommend SRQcustoms. They did my box and it looks and, more importantly, sounds amazing. Full width 10" ported box for $110 shipped. (they also do half-width sealed or full-width dual-speaker sealed)

I was gonna mention SRQ too but I wasn't sure if they made ported boxes for the 8. I got the box for my W6 from them and they made it to the correct airspace for that sub (pics in my profile). When a friend of mine saw/heard it he had me order a box for his Grand prix and he's very happy too.
