amp sugestion?

a small quick question.... what amplifier would you recomend to power 2 kicker solo barics L7 12" ?(they'll be in sealed compounds)

i'd need one(just 1, as i have no room for 2) that heats up very little, as i want to encase it, and it will have no ventialtion at all available.

as well, i don't exactly feel like selling my wheels to buy one :P
tnx

No ventilation = recipe for disaster. All amplifiers, regardless of design topology emit heat. If this heat has nowhere to go, the amp is going to fail. Choose a class D design for as low a heat signature as possible. The amp MUST have room to vent it's heat, time to rethink your design ideas. The amp to choose is going to be dependent on the voice coil arrangement of the subs. Without knowing this a amp cannot be recommended. I take it you already have the subs as well?

I dont know what configuration you are using that would give you no ventilation. Both my AMP's have very little breathing room but at least they still have some. On a real hot day my sub amp can get near 140 degrees and it still keeps pounding away.....not to mention its small as ****.

I use the new Alpine PDX-1.1000

Here is the link to what I have done...

no, i don't have the subs yet, but i found a good deal on them and they're a phonecall away.

my 8 has no spare wheel, so i want to put the amplifier in that place, and case it with reinforced plexiglass in order to prevent various contents from being spilled onto it, or to prevent dust coming in. (since the trunk is still going to be used)

yes, i was thinking of a d class amplifier, but i'm completely blank in electrical expertise, that's why i was hoping for a little support from you guys.

the sub specifications can be found here (or on www.kicker.com)

p.s.- the amp is only for the subs, since i'll be keeping the rest of the bose system most likely. perhaps change the door speakers to some mid-high speakers, in order to cut the vibrations down)

i second the alpine pdx amplifier recommendation. you will need 2 of those amps, but 2 pdx amps take up much less than many competitors single amp at 1000 watts. another bit of advice. dont buy online, unless you dont care about a warranty. most manufacturers (especially alpine) will not honor a warranty on product unless purchased at a local authorized alpine retailer, except when purchased through crutchfield, but you cant really get a good deal from them unless the product is on clearance.

as to the heat issue, i wholly agree with forbidden, though the pdx amps have lower heat output than most amps. alpine has 9 amps installed on their sinister 6 demo vehicle, and they are actually under a plexi-glass cover (though i do not know if there is any ventilation)

also, judging from the specs you are quoting in the above picture, these are last years kicker L7 woofer, as this years have 800 watts continious power handling.

Actually you can easily drive both of thos 12's with the pdx. I have 1 of them pushing 3 Alpine type-R 10's and it kicks the crap out of them and the amp is still only at half way

the amp is only at half way what?

if you are referring to the gain, that is not a volume control. it is a sensitivity control for the input stage of the amplifier. it the amplifier is properly tuned to the source unit you have, it doesnt matter whether the gain is at the least sensitive setting or the most sensitive setting, you will get the same power out of the amplifer. again the key concept here is the proper tuning of the amp to the source unit.

running the pdx 1.1000 on three type r's ( i am assuming that they are current models at 500 watts each and not the old models at 300 watts ) you are not going to be taking full advantage of the woofers. same thing with running 1 pdx on 2 L7's.

dont get me wrong, the pdx amps are badass, i have 2 of the 2.150 amps just on my front door speakers, and plan on doing one more for the rear speaks and the 1000 for the type x 12 i am going to put in.
