Always go with Pioneer amps, they are great! But take that for what it's worth I work for them!

IMO...there are many other (better) brands then kenwood. MTX, Polk Audio, Alpine and Rockford Fosgate. You'll notice that the better amps (like those i mentioned) come with a spec sheet that tell you the output of your amp when tested at the factory. So you will know the true power of the amp you are running. It's not possible to say you have a 1000 watt amp because every amp that a company makes, even if its the same model, vary in power output. So the better companies test every amp that goes out. My polk c500.1 amp is sold as a 500 watt amp, however, the spec sheet it came with showed it was tested at 595 watts. Also most crapy brand of amps list the maximun power out put, in your case, 1000 watts. If you look closer you will see that your "1000 watt amp" is only puting out 400 watts at 2 ohms and only 200 watts at 4 ohms. Better amps don't even list the maximun power output because it's not realistic that you'll ever get to use it. Instead, they list the RMS (root mean square) out put power.... this is the true power that a amp can put out continuously. So, if you look at my 500 watt polk amp compared to your 1000 kenwood amp, you would think that you have twice the power, but really, I have three times the power you do. Look for a better amp, but hey, the subs are nice! Just a bit low on the sensitivity scale (you're going to need a lot of power to move it).

As far as subs... the box that is built for it will matter more than the sub that is in it. If you build a magnificent box for a crappy sub... it will be able to do its job and even impress you!!! Build a crappy box for a great sub, and it will not hold its weight and will depress you. But dont forget, you get what you pay for in terms of quality and dexterity.

As far as amps, I have always been a huge fan of Cadence amplifiers. The amount of BOOM you get for the sound quality in relation to the price is amazing. In terms of pocket drain for product, they are the best.

As for more of the inexpensive line, JBL has my vote. While not the best amps ever made, their BP1200.1 (owned two of them) were complete BEASTS! I ran 2 AT Shockers (15") and CV Strokers (18") off these amps and they absolutely beat the ever loving hell out of those subs. Their newest version of the BP is the BPX.

Their highest output amp is 2200 watts... and is probably underrated. Check em out!

I have the same model Kenwood but the 4 channel version. I like it, with the fan it runs nice and cool. I have my MB quarts and Inifinity Kappas running on it. Sound great to me. No complaints at all. And the amp was only $200. Great bargin if you ask me! Thinking of getting the same and you are talking about for my sub. Let me know how is sounds...

PS> This is my second Kenwoon amp I have owned in 7yrs.... yes my first Kenwood lasted 5yrs!

I found my amp at CC yesterday for 199$
It's an alpine MRD-M301 mono sub amp.
I can run a 10" sub with no problems is stable to 2ohms, small and has a line level or speaker input.
Class D makes it very small to.
