Ensure that it is grounded properly with a low return resistance as well. Resistance manifests itself as heat in an amplifier. Read the grounding sticky at the top of the forum.

open the slot between the rear seats, so the cooled air (by Aircond) can get into the luggage place, or if you dont use the rear speaker take out those. If its still not enough place a vent to the holes of the speakers! (or buy a vented amp.

if your not 1st your last
same spot my amp is mounted but in a amp rack I made encased with plexi
so I am heading to the store now to pickup 2- 12v small fans.
I have a temp gun right now to measure temps under but reallylooking around for the best or some materials to put under the rack to break up the heat.but I know its not the best place to locate a amp.obvious yes but because of the exhaust worst place.
I can let you know in a day or so how much or how little the improvement of fans and a exhaust port will be.also is it mounted on anything mdf, or just floor board

Mine is mounted directly to the floor board. I checked my ground yesterday and it checked out perfectly on my tester, so that isnt the problem. i run two 2 ohm DVC subs off of it and my amp has a 2 ohm load bridged. Kel Rx8, how did you build your amp rack? Im tryin to build one too.

I have JL 500.1 and 300.4 amps mounted in the spare tire wheel well, covered over with carpet wrapped peg board. I poked holes in the carpet through the peg board for some ventilation. Even in the blazing central Florida heat, I have no problems (the amps themselves are three years old, formerly in my Mazda 6). Bottom line is that JL amps can handle the heat.
