Another Noob seeking audio advice... Amp selection.

Hey all, I did some research, and I think I'm pretty solid on what I want to purchase...

First, as I've posted before, I'm need a usable trunk. Enough for a hockey bag.

Therefor, the subs I believe are going to be (2) Pioneer Shallow Mount 10s TS-SW2541D.

Enclosure: I'm having two separate enclosures built, designed to be forward firing. I don't have the specs exactly yet because I haven't finalized the subwoofer order (why I'm asking for advice before I pull the trigger)

Amp: JL Audio Slash 300/2. Also not purchased yet. Do I need a remote on for this amp or does it turn on with a signal? Anyway

The questions...
(this is where I'm unsure)
Is this too much amp for these shallow subs?
Can I use any line out adapter or do I need something special?
Do I need, stress NEED, a 4 gauge wiring kit?
Capacitor? Y/N?

Any other problems all you smart audio people see with this set-up, let me know, ASAP because I am doing my best not to suck at this.

I installed all the fatmat last weekend and I'm ready to pull the trigger on all of this stuff. But again, trunk space must be kept!

Thank you all!

New Edit: I am thinking that a JL 500/1 may be the better way to go for the amp. Thoughts?

I would use the remote turn on, not sure if they have a signal sense turn on but its easy to tap the rear cig lighter and it will ensure the amp goes on when the car is turned on and off when you turn the car off.

The amps power is fine for the subs. You can even go to a higher powered altenative. The amp will give each sub 150W RMS, the subs can handle 250W RMS.

You can use any regular LOC with the project. If you have a base stereo just tap at the rear speakers. If you have BOSE, then you should tap after the amp/at rear speakers. I would definitely check out Navone Engineerings stuff. Very well made and not expensive at all.

8 gauge wiring should be fine if you stick with the 300/2. Everybody has different opinions and there are charts that you can use to determine which gauge is suited to the power being consumed, but I would say anything up to 400W RMS 8 Guage is fine anything above I would use 4. Make sure that the ground is good and that it has a good connection to chassis or just run it straight back to the battery negative.

Capacitor shouldn't be needed at all. You aren't consuming enough power to stress the stock battery/alternator.

Good Luck

Thanks for your advice, juice.

Do you think the set-up is the most effienct way to do it? Two boxes - forward firing?

I'm going to place the order for the boxes here shortly.

I'm taking my ideas to some amish guys because they're awesome at this stuff... But I think I'll do the wiring myself

I would love to hear any other thoughts!

I really like the 4080 enclosure I have. It doesn't fire forward but It's plenty loud enough, and I only have 1. Also, it doesn't take up your whole trunk.

Capacitors are bandaids for the more serious problem of having to small an alternator. They look neat though.

I really liked the 4080s as well as the zenclosure... but both of those would be using too much space IF I got the shallow mount pioneers. They don't need that large of a box.

I measured what the trunk dimensions would be with 2 4080s and I wouldn't be able to fit the hockey bag across the trunk. The room closer the rear seat isn't too usable for me, so I'm looking to mount there.

I also have a rear strut bar that does nothing but look cool (I'm convinced.) I'd like to build the system around that too, perhaps using it to help anchor some of the boxes, but also just to keep looking cool

Thats good news about the capacitor though, I'm glad I don't have to mess with it, unless my lights start dimming...

What size/brand sub do you have in your 4080 box? What amp are you running?

Just another thought for your system. I know you don't want to lose any space and neither did I so here is a link to what I did. It is a single slim 10 in the trunk indent:

https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-interior-audio-electronics-24/slim-subwoofer-enclosure-pics-plans-143830/

It isn't going to bump, but it has no problems filling in the low end of my system. With just some dynamat on the rear deck and doors, my car doesn't rattle when its turned up either. Since you were saying you need to fit a hockey bag in the trunk, here is a link to the grill I am using:

http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showd...number=260-426

The ring goes on then the sub and the grill snaps on over the sub into the bottom ring.
