Post Air bag....

I think Euro versions have the "Passenger Air Bag Off" button there - North American and Aussie ones obviously don't. Not sure about JDM?

WOW?

It's a law in the US that if there is no rear seat then you must be able to disable the passanger air bag. Air bags can do more damage than good to small people.

Look in any new two seater and you'll see the disable button right on the dash.

That I can understand and is why we have laws that prevent people under a certain age sitting in the front seat. But I get your point, mine wasnt meant as an insult. I will ask about the MX5 here as I dont recall seeing it last I looked.

I think it's also there in case you install a rear-facing child seat in the passenger seat, an airbag would smack that cute little baby's head against the seat back, could be messy.

That's what I figured. I am contemplating using it for a pass through for my iPod. I have a rubber gromlet that is close to that size to finish off the rough edges.

As you can see from the above pics, that circular cutout on the passenger side of the dash is an "off " annunciator only.....not a switch.

well, in my opinion it is butt-ugly and they should've figured out a way to eliminate the cut-out for cars that don't need it. i also think the airbag warning messages on the overhead sun visors is ugly also- even tho i know it's there by law. <shrugs>

I placed a LED blue alarm armed light right there. It is perfect! Lights up the whole car!

It was my understanding that this was also a place to put a video input connector.

Only available in Japan.

There is a thread on it somewhere.

Another good use for that hole is a cig lighter relocation.
I had to do this because the ashtray area is occupied with something else...
Since then I got a much nicer plug too.

Not always, my friend bought one of the 350z's when they first came out. He has 2 young boys and had to have an aftermarket company install an airbag switch in it. He even had to fill out a form the dealer submitted, it was a pain.
