The DVD with my RX-8 is very dated - anyone know if updates will be available? John

$199 from navtech.com

the price makes it alot easier to live with 2 year old maps doesn't it

Actually checked with NavTech - not available until March or April. Coverage in Eastern Canada not available until next spring. Currently use a laptop in my van - Delorme's Street Atlas 8.0 (2 plus years old) is more update than the data on the DVD of the car I bought less than 2 months ago.

I think they're $40 for the individual CD's for CD based systems that use a CD for different regions of the country. Ours uses DVD and the entire continent is on one disc. i stand to be corrected however..

i've got a DVD burner if some one wants to...uh...ya know..work something out :D

I understand the DVD format is unique - and dual layered. DVD burner would not be helpful - and I'm Copyright believer - in any case thanks - John

I wanted to make sure my RX-8 had the newly updated DVD map, and so I called NAVTECH to find out when the update was stated for release. I was told "July or August". So, not wanting to miss some Spring driving I ordered my car which I'm told will arrive in april. My dealer told me that when the updated disc comes in I'll be able to get the update free of charge.

Overburn feature works wonders for making backup copies of your navtech dvds. The current DVDs are 4.8GB. Enjoy.

But that doesn't mean that it'll be easier and cheaper than paying out the $40.

Unfortunately the update is going to be $200, not $40. It would have been nice for Mazda to provide at least one free update during the warranty period... oh well.
