Anyone install the new Sirius S50 in their 8?

I think I've settled on this satellite radio unit. Wondering if anyone else has it and what they think. This is the portable one that is also an MP3 player. Lots of good info so far on this forum about satellite radios, thanks guys

I installed it last weekend and love it. I'll try to take some pictures tomorrow if I remember. There is an attachment that fits perfectly in that hole to the left of the glovebox if you put some tape around it. Overall I love it. I need to get the home kit so I can listen to Howard Stern at work, but that thing is hard to get right now.

Hey Mustafa, what did you use to mount the unit in that area? Do you think it would work for a Nano?

The S50 comes with a mount that is slightly smaller than that hole. I just wrapped it with black electrical tape so that it was slightly larger, and then shoved it in there until it would stick without falling out. I know it wasn't made for that purpose, and I think it is supposed to connect to another part, but after looking at it, I thought I would try to make it work. Doesn't look half bad imo. Unless there is a cradle that could hold the nano, I doubt it would work. The S50 dock has screws so that it can be mounted, but the nano doesn't.

Thanks for the fast response bud, the setup looks great btw. Is that a "Tom Tom" in the corner?

Nice job! How do you like the S50? I've heard mixed reviews. It was just so tough to get a hold of one of those that I settled with the Starmate. It's in the cup holders for now, but I may just leave it there since it is out of the way and I don't use the cupholders much. My boyfriend installed in about an hour and two minutes later I was satellite ready.

I really like it. I'm not sure if other systems do this, but if you switch the station, it will tell audibly tell you the station you are on, so you don't have to look down at the screen. Also it functions sort of like Tivo. So I can pause, rewind, save, or skip back to the beginning of a song. That has come in really handy for some new songs that I've never hear, and want to hear again. I really want to get the home docking kit, but apparently those are REALLY hard to find. I guess I'll just have to wait on that one. But overall, I'm really happy with it.

The Starmate has some of those same features as far as Pause/Rewind, but lacks the storing songs for later use. That was one of the selling points for me on the S50, I was diggin' the MP3 storage.

The ***** are easy to reach. There are some bottons on the right side which are hard to reach, however there is a remote also, so I never really touch the thing. But yes, it is mounted in that light location. When you open the glovebox, it is within millimeters of hitting it, so it couldn't be more perfect.

Does anyone know which way the airbag system hinges at that location? I'm wondering if that remote is going to get launched at the passenger if the airbag deploys.

Heh, never thought about that. I'll put a warning label on the visor. Sit at your own risk.

I wanted to get this unit myself but ive heard a lot of mixed reviews.

I think one misconseption is that it is portable and can pick up signal. I read that it can only record and be used like that on the go and not actually get fresh signal like the xm units can. This true?

No it will not get a signal when not docked. Check out some XM forums and you will see that even their Portible units aren't that good. I have the S50 but i mounted it lower useing arm it comes with. I will try to take pics this weekend.

Both the car and home dock have the antenna. Qhen it is connected you can record any song or show. When you remove it from the dock. It acts like an mp3 player
