I see they are components.

Suppose they are only good for show.

The tweeter is definitely not going to add anything when the lid is closed can't see the 6.5" doing much either.

Thanks for the correction Rotarygod.

Scud, just wanted to say I LOVE your signature - see my location, you'll understand -

Other than that those audio set ups are INSANE. I would LOVE to have something like that and could afford it, but I want to still be able to use my trunk so I'll just downgrade the performance a nothce and get a nice little box that will fit in. There are some great DIY's on that I read the other day.

The 8 that I did earlier this year used a similar thought process, we cut out his door speaker grill and made a new grill in the shape of the rotor, then duplicated this for his speaker grill for the much enlarged center channel speaker. One day I'll take the time and figure out how to post pic's.

Yes, the LED display for temp, clock, A/C still works perfectly. And I'm not sure what custom panel you're asking about???

for irregular volumes you can just fill them up with water, then measure the volume of the water it took to fill the enclosure - you'll also be able to see if there are any leaks - of course this is not recommended with unsealed MDF; that stuff blows up like a marshmellow when exposed to water.

What would be a good sealer for MDF?

Would it be a bad idea to intall an amp on the trunk (boot) lid?

After seeing the Kicker car I am looking at the lid differently

dude that amp is nuts, between that and my enclosure being almost right at the recommended airspace plus having the VGW dual voice coil 10s my car is nuts, you should see the look on people's face when they see 1 amp and only 2 subs, it's priceless, they look around like I should have more or something. I saw the kicker car in person at Texas HeatWave, while it was a fairly decent install, it was a lame car, cloth seats, auto, bogus wheels, etc. not to mention it probably should have been louder for what it had. (I do give props to them for using an 8 though) I love the Soundstream stuff, I was hesitant at first since they're not the same company they used to be, but so far my amp/subs have been flawless and my car sounds unbelievable, one thing I have noticed is that a well built box and a well placed sub in the 8 does wonders, it's almost like the car was meant for something back there

I'd be hesitant to go too crazy on the decklid too, maybe for a smaller amp it wouldn't be so bad, just keep in mind you'll have to run 3 wires to whatever amp you put up there, and unless you use insanely small power, ground, remote, (bad idea by the way) fitting that wire cleanly through the factory grommets etc. is going to be a bit of a fight. Just running a single wire for my neons that backlit my piece of lexan was a definite pain, I can't imagine running like 4, 8, 16 gauge or whatever and having to do 3 of them...ouch.

Yeah that makes sense. I was thinking that when somebody else asked me, just wanted to get a second opinion since I have been out of the business for 7 years.

Well, at least Fallujah has calmed down a tad in recent months. Here's to you getting home quickly to play with your -8.

So the fiberglass is used only to smooth out the transition It is all coming back to me

I really like the use of the rotary shape.

How long did it take to do the first door Forbidden?

ayrton012 that looks nice I helped with a competition car years ago and we had a pair of 6.5" in each door like that, around the speakers we had dark mirror purple glass surrounding them. In the kick panels there was a 5 1/4 and tweet.
I would rather have that setup than the loudest sub ever. Very nice mid-bass came from it and an Excellent, EXCELLENT sound stage.

Has anyone every used or heard of Oz Audio?

I have a 3-way component set which includes:

2- 8"
2- 6.5"
2- 1" tweeters
2- crossover boxes for input and output to the 3 speakers each side

I just need to pull in the funds or find the time to get this done.

Not sure if there is enough room in the doors to put all three in each door.
There is not much room to put a 6.5 and tweet in the kick panel.
Options are limited aren't they?

To be honest, I don't know. I did the entire install (trunk and HU swap) all at once, and they just charged me total hours of labor.

It took me a day to do both doors. A good amount of kitty hair, mdf, yelling, swearing, noxious odours and it was done. If you look close at the mounting hole you will see that we brown breaded the door, then used black Scosche Accumat over top of it and painted the structural member with tremclad black as well. We needed to do this as the customer wanted to be able to see his speakers with a twist. We mounted the mids to clear plexiglass. If you look at one of the pics of the factory speaker mount, you will notice that we have added a Liteglow led suspension lighting kit to it, one pod for each corner. That leaves us a total of 64 multicolor leds to light up each mid. It is major waaaaay cool at night. We mounted the crossover behind the door panel and used the factory lighting circuit to showcase the crossover. We removed the single light bulb and wired in a 4 led Varad lighting kit, one led for each corner of the crossover. This lights up whenever the door is opened. As a final touch we recovered the lower door in black vinyl instead of repainting the lower section. It is a much nicer look to the door panel now.

I have used OZ Audio before but sadly I am out of touch with the line due to it's poor representation in our neck of the woods.(being stuck on an Island kinda blows dead goats sometimes) With major reconstructive surgery it is possible to put a 8" and 6.5" in the door. Major major work at that. More pic's to come.

Thanks 4 years to Supercharge! The sound is really great. I only have problem with the vibration at high volumes. I used Noise Blocker and dampening materials but I couldn't kill every vibration which comes from the door. Any idea?
I use the 4" Focal 4K slim set above 250 Hz. I made sealed boxes for these on the dashboard. The "stage picture" is very good with this positions. Now I'm making experiments with the changing frequency between the kicks and the 4" set, but my "space" is little, because the max allowed freq. is 300 Hz for the kicks, and if I choose lower changing freq. like 250 Hz than the sealed boxes of the 4"s are small.

Did you use the dampening material that comes in a spray can. This works good for getting into areas that can't be reached with dynamat. The dampening looks really good on the door in the picture.

Make sure all wires inside the doors are secured, or wrapped in foam last thing needed is them making noise after spending time dampening the doors.

Another thing I have done before is laid a thin layer of foam between the door panel and the door so that the panel and door do not have vibrations between them.
