audio pilot

Alright I'm pretty mad... i sent my car into the dealer for my brakes, but i also told them that i don't think that my Audio pilot is working cause it doesnt adjust to the cabinet noise. Later, they called me and told me that my car was not fitted with the Audio pilot and that's why it doesnt work, but I have the grand touring package which comes with the Bose system that has the audio pilot. I looked at the website and it says the touring package DOES COME WITH AUDIO PILOT. but the arrogant salesman at BROWNING CERRITOS MAZDA said that I was wrong and that it was an added option . The service man said the same thing. They said not all BOSE systems come with Audio pilot and not all grand touring packages come with audio pilot.

So who's right and who's wrong? Should I have Audio Pilot or not?? what should i do?

All Touring AND Grand Tourings come with AudioPilot. It is part of the package. Unless you bought it used from someone who swapped it out. What happens when you cycle through the audio menus? The first item should be Audiopilot On/Off.

If it is not there, then they probably swapped it into a base model for another customer, and decided to rip off the person who buys the GT.

I agree, you should have it with the touring package. Grand Touring at that!

I have the GT and I have it. I don't want it but I got it in the package. They're wrong. But, trust me, you aren't missing much, it screws with the sound quality, imho, and I always keep it turned off. What do you see when you press the Text button? The first thing that comes up is the audiopilot, where you can turn it on or off. If it comes up, you most likely have it. (even if it isn't working properly).

I have the audiopilot on mine but have never really noticed it. I guess because I am constantly adjusting the volume myself. I tend to either have it extremely loud or extremely low.

Your car has this feature, no question. Take it to another dealer or contact Mazda USA for written confirmation that your car has this feature.

GT comes with audiopilot and is very noticeable to me.
Sometimes it will startle me in early a.m. with volume set at 5 or 6 it almost will double in volume as the 8 starts to roll down the hyway. I am thinking of just turning it off altogether.
See a different dealer--I would be mad also for dealer blowing you off like that

My humble opinion is that the Audio Pilot is a solution looking for a problem. It works terribly - the "ambient noise compensation" feature on the rental Chevy Malibu I had this week in Dallas, TX worked far better than that lame feature. I keep it turned off.

As others have said, you're not missing much. I leave mine off always.

Hi LikeWhoa:

If you don't notice anything, then supposedly it works perfectly! Mine, as I put the car in gear and accelerate away from the house, will nearly double the volume of the radio, but yet it never seems to bring it back down ... I just got sick of it and went back to the good ol days - using a volume control.

I turned mine off very soon after getting my 8. I found it very annoying.

My bigger concern is how you are being treated by the dealership. I bought my Mazda Protege 5 at Browning Cerritos Mazda, and would consider buying my 8 there, but this may impact that decision.

If you are going to say something like that on a public forum, you should at least give the basis for the statement.

I have turned AP off after my sub and amp installed.

It adjusts the volume of the stereo depending on the speed the car is moving to compensate for road/wind noise.

My impression was that it also boosts certain frequencies to "neutralize" road noise. It isn't just controlling volume... stereo defintely sounds better with it off.

When I was RX8 shopping the guys at browning were constantly trying to rip me off. Non stop playing with words telling me lies. Outrageous lies. At one point they finally said theyd do MSRP on one of them. Why just that particular one I thought? I went out and inspected it and it had a deep deep gash on the hood. I pointed it out and he said "oh I didnt see that." I left. Shady bunch of guys workin there.

Thanks Russell. It was 3 years ago I bought my Protege there. The salesman was actually a decent guy, but when he brought the Sales Manager in, well, I must admit I was a bit turned off. But they did have a Yellow Pro 5 in stock, and I was well prepared, and I got my price. As long as you do your homework, you won't get screwed, even though they might try!

Back to the topic of this thread, our Chevrolet Trailblazer has the "audio pilot" feature. My wife uses it and actually likes it. I am pretty neutral on it. I can definitely hear the volume go up and down, but it isn't too bad. It has it's uses, I just wish there was a way you could fine tune it (it does let you tune it some, but not enough).

my volume is typically at 4 - 10 range, sometimes up to 12. I don't notice any change in audio pilot mode.
