Audiolink iPhone 3GS Problem
Hey guys,
I have the Audiolink iPod adapter in my 8, and it worked great with my original iPhone (2g). But now that I got an iPhone 3GS, the music will still play through the system but I get a message on the screen that says "charging not supported with this device." Is there any way to make it charge again or another integration kit that will charge it, or am I SOL? Thanks.

You have an iphone, there's Problem #1 Rootski.
sorry man, I couldn't resist!
Hopefully someone comes along with some useful advice as it sounds weird that the 'newer' phone wouldn't work with this.

With a bit of searching around the net I found the cause of and solution to this problem (and it's not alcohol), in case anyone else was wondering. Basically, Apple gave up Firewire support in favor of USB 2.0 for the iPhone 3G/3GS. Since the Audiolink (and most other third-party chargers) used the Firewire pins for power, they don't work anymore. There is this adapter, though, that converts the USB power to Firewire power and makes everything work again. More in-depth discussion about this can be found here.
