AudioLink iPod adapter static and electrical interference
EDIT: If you own an AudioLink iPod adapter (or any other iPod adapter at that), I ask you to try the following and report whether or not you observe the following:
At full iPod volume with a song paused and car stereo volume @ 13 or higher, listen for static and beeping noises while using the iPod via the speakers. The easiest ways to test this would be to "tilt" into album mode on an iPhone / iPod Touch (do this repeatedly to hear the noise), or just scroll through menus on any other iPod.
In addition to this, do you observe audible clicks when using the steering wheel controls to go forward and back in tracks?
For reference, I can replicate this with multiple iPods with the AudioLink adapter on my 2006 GT with a Bose system running firmware 9.82.

I observe this phenomenon on my 2nd iPod now (previous an iPod Video, current one an iPod Touch). I can tell there is a fair amount of background static during playback that really detracts from the audio quality of the music itself. There is also some sort of distinct clicking noise that happens whenever using the steering wheel controls to change songs. Does anyone else experience either of these with the AudioLink (or any other) adapter?
I haven't tried the minijack end; have only been using the dock adapter so far. I believe I used electrical tape over the minijack end to try to stave off interference from that end.

i use the sd card and noticed no noise, the only issue i had was the stupid thing anoying the tpms system so i just rerouted it to under the seat, att phones have always cause alot of noise on radios for me, have a black berry from my office that is on att and is horrid
dont see how tape is going to block the noise, ud need a grounded shield or something

I think the easiest way to describe it is the audio quality sounds like that of an FM transmitter. ![Frown](https://www.rx8club.com/images/smilies/frown.gif)
I know the static isn't from any GSM buzz (I use a CDMA phone) as it is rather constant. It also isn't from the quality of the music recordings. As far as a ground goes; I don't recall ever hearing about people grounding these devices.
Could this be a dirty connection in the dock plug?
First, I'm going to grab a friend's iPod nano to compare on my adapter. If it gets static too, then I may try another unit (Grom adapter, maybe?)

After comparing my iPod Touch against a friend's iPod Nano (older generation), I can safely say the static is related to the internal computing of the device. The static interference is influenced by the circuitry within the iPod itself. This happens both with music playing AND with it paused.
For example, when in playback mode on the iPod Touch, I could hear static and beeps accompanied with turning the iPod on its side going into album view mode.
Likewise with the Nano, rotating through menus you can hear the individual *beeps* from your actions. The static is significant with these noises as well.
I ask anyone else with an AudioLink iPod adapter to try and confirm if they observe this behavior as well. The noises are easily audible with volume at 13 or higher. FWIW, my car is a 2006 GT with the Bose system running firmware 9.82.
I am adding this information to my original post to try to entice others to read.

Almost a 3 year old thread, but the OP here is explaining the problem very similarly to what I am talking about:

Interesting that his problem went away with a new iPod.

I sort of have this issue as well... I have the Audiolink and a first gen iPod Touch. When I first plug the unit in I notice that there is some static (though it doesn't seem to change when I use the controls like yours does).
The static is noticable for around 5-10 minutes and then seems to fade over time from there. If I leave the pod in the car for a day or so the noise is gone... only to return when I remove and plug the thing back in... use to drive me nuts... now.... meh.

Oh man I totally have this problem. I have the xcarlink from the rpm store and have actually gone through two of them. At first I thought it was the adapter so I sent it in for a new one and the problem persists. It's gotten to the point where I can't even listen to quiet songs because the static is so noticeable. What's interesting is that I didn't have this problem when I used my first gen touch with the previous xcarlink model.
