Anything is possible.....if you lay down enough coin.

They don't auto-lock on any RX-8 in any worldwide market that I'm aware of.....

If you have a thread that is a question, use a question mark. They do have "?" keys on computers in other parts of the world don't they?

It's like starting a thread titled:

"900HP LS1 in my RX-8!!"

and then in the first post state:

"When am I going to get a 900HP LS1 in my RX-8?"

Yeah I had hoped this was a soultion thread not a question thread. I want the auto-locking feature as well. It should be very simple for Mazda to implement, but they haven't.

On the contrary, I'm very happy they did not include that "feature" on the RX-8. I hate every single car that does it...
At the very least, such a feature should always be switchable so that those who don't want it, can turn it off. Best of both worlds.

Have humans become so damn lazy that now they can't simply raise their hand and flip the lock manually??? Why does everthing have to be automatic??? And yes I dislike this feature as well.

I just lock them when I get into the car. Very simple.
Automatic would be nice then I wouldn't have to burn those 15 calories lifting my hand.

Mazda took some short cuts with secondary features. Being a semi-family car it should have it for safety.

I've been working on a module that can monitor several signals in the car and control relays based on those signals, see this thread

As long as there is a good place to get the vehicle speed signal, this module will be able to lock the doors at a certain speed.

What the module does (open/close windows or sunroof, lock/unlock car, flash your underbody neons ) is completely programmable, so lots of options!

This thing is still under development, so input wanted!

++3. I hate it when the doors lock by themselves. That means you have to hit the UNLOCK button to get out.

Being car jacked is the last thing I worry about when driving in the car.

Auto locking is pathetic. It's a show off feature and nothing more. I've never seen a manual car with one either...only automatics. I guess it would activate once you shifted from neutral into a gear.

I've got an aftermarket module on my car that does auto locking and unlocking. It locks at a programmable speed and it unlocks when the ignition is switched off. You can set it up to unlock the drivers door or both doors when you shut the car off.

Things like this do exist and can be purchased for relatively cheap.

Do any of the cars in the mazda line have auto locks? I know my 6 does not, but I do have the drunk friend locks set up on the back doors since the only ones riding back their are either drunk or of the K-9 variety.

I have this feature on my LS.. Its both nice and annoying.. It activates once you go a certain distance I have knowticed. Normally like a foot or two..

I had auto locks on my 1994 5 speed Chevy Cavalier. The doors locked at 10mph.

wow, i was almost ready to start bashing all you guys who had posted thus far. when i read on "take off" i was thinking aas in like get out of the car and take off..... and mine DOES auto lock when i walk away from the car.... whew! that was a close one, luckily THIS time i saved myself further embarrasment from not fully reading

It's a great feature for safety reasons.

This is one feature that people either love or hate. I totally agree that it should be a programmable feature on every car with power door locks. Not having it as a feature is just the OEM cutting corners.

My mom's Trailblazer locks when you shift it into drive, and unlocks when you shift it into park. I personally dislike the feature, And in the case of an accident, you cannot get the doors open from the outside, increasing the time for rescue. The only good thing about it is it keeps children from bailing out, and doors closed in the event of a rollover. But kids cannot get out the back of our car, and it only has a 7% chance of a rollover.

How long does it add to the rescue time? 10 seconds to break a window?

In the event that the accident is bad enough that 60 seconds is the difference between life and death chances are the doors won't open even if they are unlocked (from massive crumpling of the car).

How many news storys have you heard in the past 5 years of people walking up to cars stopped at intersections, opening the doors, and jumping in. I would guarentee there are more of these storys then storys of people killed because they got in to an accident and no one could open the locked door to save them.

Like I said, this is a love/hate feature, but if you are going to hate it hate it for a good reason, not because it will 'lock' you in in a fender bender!

You would be surprised. I'm a volunteer firefighter. And if a door is crumpled and locked, it is significantly harder to pry a door off than it would be just crumpled. Have you ever read in a newspaper article about the extrication of a patient taking 15+ minutes? it's usually because of a locked door causing them difficulties. The removal of 4 doors and the roof should only take 10 mins. I know, I've done it. The only other thing would be a dash roll, and I have never seen that done in an actual accident. They are very rare. And really, dash rolls have become much easier with the pnumatic ram.

And that's gotta be one hell of a "fender bender" to knock the victim out...

oh, and in the event of a car jacking, if someone pulls your door open, put your foot on the gas pedal and drive off. Oh, there's a car in front of you? well, that would make it difficult for them to drive off to wouldn't it? they're threatening you with a gun? well, locked doors wont do **** now will they, unless they're bullet proof.

Now, don't get me wrong, there are pro and cons to each argument, you just need to back them up.
