Aux Port?

hey guys. i just bought my 2004 rx8 and it doesn't have an aux port. i've seen that you can buy one. but is it better to go through mazda to get one or aftermarket stuff? can anyone recommend a good and easy to install one?

Are we talking an integration kit or an actual AUX port? I haven't seen anything about an AUX port, i searched.

i thought the integration kit was just something you plugged in the back of your stock head unit.

it will work great if you have a sony stereo installed in your car...

many people suggest either:
http://www.therpmstore.com/product_i...roducts_id=141
or
if you have an ipod:
http://www.therpmstore.com/product_i...roducts_id=142

i plan on getting the first one myself because i just want an aux port.

Will it work with a stock Bose sound system? Or only with a Sony?

The GROM thing seems to be an AUX port. FM transmitters go through your radio, obviously, and plug into your cig lighter.
This GROM thing goes through your CD changer cable and runs through the AUX port. So I'd assume you'd hold the ipod instead of doing Radio controls, which I feel would be a bitch. I'd rather control it through the Ipod. That would be amazing, and $60 is dirt cheap for that. Anyone that has this GROM thing, how does it sound? CD quality?

im using it to hook up the carpc. it will "give me another aux. unit on my controls". il be able to change mode through my steering wheel controls or using the dash itself. at least thats the way i read it will work.

aux port is just that, an auxiliary port that has a interface mated to your stock HU.. unless you want steering wheels controls for your iPod or charging an integration kit is useless.

sound quality will be the same.

get a grom for $62 shipped from indashpc.org and you can plug in anything with a standard 3.5mm audio jack and get sound.............. if that's all you wanted.

That is all I want. So just buy it and plug it into the back of the stock head unit and run it through and then you have sound?

Yeah..I have the same problem as you too. I think you do have to get a firmware upgrade, but I think that I've read that someone has used it fine without the firmware upgrade.

I did it but instead of hacking things apart and having a ridiculous wire stick out. I did a clean install of a 1/8" female stereo jack. Looks no different from OEM AUX jacks. Sounds clear also. Took me a while to find a program to create the silence CD though.
