aux in question with 6 disk changer Please help!
Ok so I'm trying to run both an XM radio and my Harmen Karden drive+play Ipod controler through RF modulators and its just shitty, I have a humm that I can't get rid of and I can't figure out how to use a GLI with a modulator. arghh. I either have to figure out an aux in or get a new car. But I love my RX-8 so please help.
** I have a 2004 radio with 6 disk chamber and OLD firmware, which option works?
Option 1 - I have read about the auxmod that plugs into the minidisc tape deck plug inside the radio. Will this work with the old firmware? and with a 6 disk changer? and does it sound as good as the pie thing?
Option 2 - Send in my head unit for the firmware upgrade and add the pie adaptor. Does this work if you already have a built in 6 disk changer? I have read that the pie plugs into the changer port? Does this sound better than the auxmod tape thing?
Option 3 - Replace head unit with aftermarket. How on earth you could do this I don't know with that odd shape, but maybe.. I suppose I would lose steering wheel control and the audio tie in to my nav system? Has anyone done this?
Please and thank you for any posts. This has been a constant nag for the last year that I have owned the car.

I could say "search" but I feel like typing
Yes, yes and yes.
Regarding the last question, I can already see some folks chiming in saying that the AuxMod has a ground loop problem and it might hum - but I'm using an early version and it never did that. The newer units are even better in that regard. And a GLI should take care of such a problem anyway.
Yes, true and not really.
Regarding the PIE plugging into the changer port - although this is correct, that's for an external changer which (I suppose) you don't have. The factory 6-disc changer is an internal model, part of the radio assembly. So you should have no problem.
There are a few adventurous people who did that already - it's a very involved process and you must relocate part of the factory head unit responsible for the HVAC and display control. It costs a lot of money too. I'd say, try either one of the other paths before going that route.

thanks for info
actualy I did search and read alot of info on this but nobody seemed to directly point out if it would work with an internal changer and I did read about the groud loop issue on the auxmod. The auxmod would be nice since I do not believe I have to send my head unit out for firmware upgrade.
