Well, I feel like I've listened to just about every possible combination of car (or car practical) speaker known to man...
I've been doggedly looking for something that can reproduce highly accurate sound...
I thought I'd come as close as I was going to get with Focal ... (strangely the Polykevlar range sounding better than their more expensive Utopia range).
Then I heard some AVI speakers (specifically the BSM range)....
In all of my prior testing, I'd found that across all of the types of music I'd compared, the K2 Focals provided better detail, definition and less colouration of the music.
Testing the AVI's against the Focals was as big a step up as was Focal from, say, Alpine.
The AVI's sound quality was incredible. Things like a drip of water, the sound of a guitarist's fingers sliding along the strings were as crystal clear and "real". A piece of folk music I was using as a reference has a delicate triangle being tapped in the background that I'd never distinguished before. The vocals were amazing.
Forget comparing to other car audio, the AVI's compare to top line audiophile home speakers ... as does their price
There's very little out there on the web I can find about AVI speakers other than AVI's own rather out of date website. The car audio centre I was auditioning them in was in the middle of an AVI install in a Rolls Royce!
The top line AVI speakers alone would cost between 5 and 8 times as much as the Focal K2's, depending of the AVI speaker models I chose. So I'm being cautious.
Details of any experience or knowledge with the top end AVI's would be appreciated.
(Yes AVI also make lower/average grade speakers, matching Focal in price, and the K2's did compare very well against those).
