Exclamation Avic-n1

Check out Pioneer's new AVIC-N1 electronic fold out dvd touch screen, dvd player, visual guages, mp3 player, and navigation, all in a single din sized radio.

***MOD EDIT: Sales info removed. You cannot use this forum to sell things. If you are a private seller and want to sell your unit, put a post in the For Sale/Wanted forum.***

Or you can read about it on the AVIC-N1 website, here.

This is one very cool toy, and I may someday go with something like it when a kit to replace the factory head unit is available.

Forget a head unit conversion, I am hoping to install this unit using the RMAGIC 1 Din Dash replacement part, connect it to the factory head unit with the method in this thread. Then add the reverse cam though the license plate holder. Oh man I am salivating over here.

Seriously, I love this unit. I went to a local audio place and looked at some alpine solutions, but this is by FAR the most elegant, full featured unit I have ever seen. The only reason that the guys at the shop could give me to get the Alpine (for $1000 more than the Pioneer) was that the Alpine had a more user friendly interface. For a thousand bucks, that had better be one F*cking friendly interface.

I looked at the Avic n1 at a local shop and they wanted to charge me $2600 for just the unit. I looked it up on Ebay and found it for $1500.

Make sure you shop around before your install. I can't believe that they were going to charge me $1100 more than what it was available for elsewhere.

There's also a customer review of one here where the guy says the maps are bad and the fan noise is intolerable.

I have read a couple reports on these units. It seems that the fan noise is a hit or miss thing. Some people say there is no fan noise that they can detect , some say that its so bad it drowns out the music. Makes me really nervous to buy one cheap off eBay or someplace with a questionsable return policy.

Could be a hardware version thing, with older units having the problem and newer versions having it fixed. Buyer beware. Also, cannot determine if the fan noise comes from the aux box with the gyro (I assume) or from the head unit itself. Since I'll be putting the aux box in the trunk I am hoping its in there.

As far as the maps go, that's a software thing to me, and can only get better as updates come out, but sucks that the maps have holes as of now
