Im saving up and getting the v1 since that seems to be the most highly recommended and I don't see why I don't just go with the best.

The v1 does slightly edge out most of it's competitors in many tests, but not EVERY test. And it's always a close 1-2-3 finish. Now you look at the $450 price tag of the v1 and the $220 price tag of the RX65...... and make the decision.

Where do you get your prices from because a brand new V1 is $399 from the Valentine Research website. You can save 10% on a V1 if you call 1 800 331 3030 and get a returned V1 with 1 year warranty. A new Bel RX65 is $329.95 from the Bel website and if you get it for cheaper than that, is not from an authorized dealer so you get no warranty when it breaks in a year.

Calm down. It was a quick Ebay search. You work for Valentine or something? Funny how you chose the one website that has the V1 in front by so much. Every other link we've hit upon, they're all neck and neck. Yes, the V1 is the best. But it's pricey. So if you could get out of my throat, I'd appreciate it

I believe the best detectors on the market are the Escort 9500 i or the V1.
Both have great detection, it just comes down to whether you want to put up with the ultra sensitive V1 (which might have longer range) or if you want to be able to block some of those false alarms with the 9500i.

Can't go wrong with either one.

I'm a big fan of false alarms, so I LOVE the Valentine!

This thing even COUNTS them for me!

I've had 2 x V1's - the first used to false alarm heaps . Someone smashed my side window and stole that one . The new one I got hardly ever false alarms on same settings same bands etc

Like 99% of America, all the cops around here use regular ol Ka band guns. I disabled both K and X bands on my Bel RX65. NEVER have a false alarm. :D

It is my understanding that nearly all United States Police use the Ka band for speed detection. (Something like 95%) And this is not always radiating from the car. If you're the only one on the road, expect to hear nothing..... then KA full blast 10..... because the officer just popped his radar on right as you drove past. Yep. You're screwed.

But hopefully you're not the only one on the road. Hopefully the officer is randomly hitting a few cars ahead of you. You're detector will pick this up and alert you before the officer's radar gun is aimed at you specifically. Keep in mind detection distance will vary with conditions. Also, the faster you are traveling, the less time you will have to react and slow down. At 120mph, I think you're pretty much screw no matter what....lol

Seti001, may I direct you to...

Those sites have a wealth of information that will answer your questions.

oh & PS- A radar detector is NOT a cop detector...so unless the COP is actually using his radar gun (either Constant On or Instant ON) then any detector will not pick up the signal (because it isn't actually being transmitted). A proper understanding of how the detectors function should be the first step in your research. Second, determine your needs and budget. Third, narrow down your choices and buy based on your preferences. Additionally, understand that many police departments are employing new laser guns (which radar detectors don't help against because by the time they go off it's already too late) which would require laser jammers as a countermeasure.
