Best top of the line alarm for the RX-8

This thread is simple, I am looking to get the top of the line alarm for my car including all the bells a whistles, remote start, window module, pager, etc etc. What are some good ones and any experiences?

Viper 591XV has built in turbo timer? That may be something I'll have to look into...

I have the clifford matrix, works great. But it's virtually all the same I believe. Moos, turbo timer is available with most alarms that allow remote start. Installing the feature mean you have to get the remote start feature, you might lose your controls on your steering wheel if you do it.

Along with the alarm, I am probably going to be getting a radar too, so what is basically the top of the line radar too and any experiences with them?

i have the 791xv in my 8, with remote start, and it is automatically programmed with "turbo timer." you basically hit the aux and star button at the same time with the key in and the car running, and it will leave the car running for approx 60 seconds. you can also just hit the star button 2 times just like remote starting, and it will stay running for the programmed remote start time.

as to extras, you can get so, so many, windows module, tilt sensor, glass break sensor, motion sensor, sunroof control, back up battery, back up battery siren. it will really add up.

only problem with remote start is if you drive the mt, you will have a hard time finding a shop to install it as it can be a liability. where are you at, if you are close i can give you a price on getting this installed.

clifford is now owned by dei, so the currently availble is virtually identical to viper's.

I'm from Los Gatos, CA lol so not close. Yeah I already talked to one of my installers, he was saying that I need to sign a release forum stating that if I leave the car in gear accidently and forget and start the car, that they are not reliable for any damage or harm caused by it.

How do you like the alarm? What modules do you have or did you just buy the alarm and will add modules later down the line? Also, I was talking to my installer cause I was supposed to get an alarm installed earlier, but he was talking about how he has to order a bypass module or something like that special for our car or else the windows won't work or something like that. Let me know what other things you had to buy in order to have the alarm installed and everything working fine. Thanks!

i work for an authorized viper dealer.

for the 791xv, with remote start you need

791xv (lol of course)
556U (for the remote start to work, you need to place one of your keys in this module, valet key will work fine)
530T (windows module)
529T (window module for sunroof)
451M (relay module for door locks)
508D (motion sensor, reccomended if you like to leave your windows down)
515R (battery backup siren, if someone disconects your battery, or cuts the siren wires, this will keep singing until it is fully reconnected, or turned off with a key)
507T (digital tilt sensor, will detect if someone is jacking up the car from either front or sides, and will set off the alarm once a certain degree of tilt is met, great for keeping aftermarket wheels safe)
506T (audio sensor, detects if glass is broken, incase someone uses a punch tool and breaks your windows, as the shock sensor wont detect the impact from the punch tool)

thats all i can think of right now. word of advice, if you are getting the remote start, get in the habit of never leaving your car in gear, and if you are ever, EVER, EVER unsure if you left it in gear, or someone else drove the car, do not use remote start, it can be ugly.

I'm aware of that. Only the basic Clifford models are identical with vipers but the G5 advantguard technology is only available to the clifford line & has beed known to be the best avaiable alarm in the market. Viper & all other DEI alarms does not share that.

Lurch, what are the needed modules to run the car with the alarm and just the remote-start so I can buy all the basics first, and then later down the line, I'll add these modules. Also, is there a limit of how many modules you can have or can you add all of these.

So what I'm looking to get is basic alarm and remote start, and then do I need the sensor modules or can I add those later? What do you suggest and about how much money would this all cost for everything?

you need the 791xv and the 556U for the key bypass, and the 451M for the door locks to work. everything else is extra, and can be added at a later time. make sure your shop knows that you want to add additional parts at a later time, so they do not cut any wires too short. also, the clutch bypass is a little different than on most manual transmission vehicles. if you need/want, i can provide a basic diagram on how to bypass the clutch neutral safety switch.

doesnt it come with an alarm? you can even buy the shock sensor thing for an extra 50$ or so... wouldnt the 2 conflict and cause you to need a different key fob? and if you have the 2005 key, wouldnt that be a PITA?

I don't think my car comes with an alarm. I have never set it off, it's only gone off when I've hit the panic button on my key, but I have not been able to set off my alarm by bumping it or anything if I do have one.

Lurch, I would really appreciate it if you could send me that diagram and I will print it out for my installer. Thanks for all the help and information Lurch. Also, do you know where I can find the 451M online? I can get the alarm for $220ish and the bypass module for around $25, I just need the 451M module for the windows. Let me know, thanks!

Now that I have my alarm set away, what about radar detectors? I've heard the Escort Passport 8500 and the Valentine One are the two best detectors. What's the pro's and con's of each. I know that the 8500 is cheaper than the V1.

yes the 8 comes with an alarm, no it wont conflict as long as it is installed correctly. as long as u no longer use the factory remote, everything will work fine. plus the 791 has a 2 way remote, so as long as you are in range, approx 1000 feet or so, you can know the status of your car, ie alarm going off and why, shock sensor, door, trunk, etc. plus, you can't remote start the 8 with the factory key fob

Your alarm will only go off if you forcefully opened the door. In order to turn the stock alarm into something usefull, you need to install the shock sensor. But every 8 comes with an alarm.

the new keys though (2005) is a switchblade key. wouldnt someone need to get a whole new key cut or basically carry around the 2 fobs?

yes or no. take your pick. you can program a 2004 key for the 2005 and vice versa.

I've had alarms on some of my previous vehicles and that didn't stop them from getting broke into. People don't pay much attention to them b/c the fact they go off for reasons that they shouldn't and stay going and going. The fact of the matter is this, if they want it bad enough, they WILL get it, no matter what.

Yes, but these are mostly for when your car is parked at home @ night. Something sets it off, it wakes you up, you look at the keychain and see it's the glass break sensor. So you immediately know something broke the glass.

These don't do much for you when you're at the mall. Too far away for the remote to work, and no one cares if the siren makes noise.

correct, a car alarm is a theft deterrent.

Okay, I am going to be picking up the Viper 791XV alarm for $220 locally around here. Supposily it is brand new and in the box and everything, I am going to go check it out tonight to make sure that it's brand new. Is there anything that I need to make sure the check before I make the purchase?

Also, I talked to my installer, and he's giving me about $250 for the install of the alarm including a bypass module for the remote start, and then some kind of module for my locks to work or something? Lurch, you have anything to say about this? He said that the modules are about $160ish for the two and $150 for labor. Is that good price for install or what do you think I should do?

ok, around here, it against dei (viper's parent company) to sell ANY alarms over the counter. you get zero warranty on the alarm if you do not have the alarm installed by the same shop that installes it. period.

we usually do the install of the 791xv between 500 and 600 INCLUDING the 791xv, depending on the vehicle (how difficult it is, the 8 isnt really that hard). the 556U (bypass module) goes for 50, and the 451M (relay for door locks) is like 15. and maybe an additional 30 to put in the bypass module.
