Blu-Ray in a car

Just wondering what the consensus was about this happening and any timeframe. Given that I've converted half my movie collection from DVD to Blu-ray and all.....

I would be happy as long as the drive could read the disc and play the movie, since obviously 1080p on a 7" screen isn't a big priority.

I don't even see 720p being a big deal on a 7" screen. I guess you could do it for baller status but other than that.... Id stick to the cheaper alternative with dvd.

Let me clarify. I'm interested in seeing it happen because my collection is being converted to blu-ray over time. It has nothing to do with the possibility of a hi-def screen in the car, its got everything to do with being able to watch the blu-ray movie at whatever resolution my screen is currently at (480p?).

Having a DVD in the car isn't of much use if you can't watch any of your movies on it because its not compatible.

the Blu-Ray players are getting smaller and smaller. When Sony first introduced its $1200 Blu-Ray disc reader... it was a beast... they are now what like $500 and slimmed down

Carputer does everything (if you upgrade it...)

But WVBoosted8 has a point.
How big the screen can you fit into 8.

Well I suppose if I got an external Blu-Ray drive and used it as a USB device it would work.

Would USB have enough bandwidth for a blu-ray? Firewire might be a better option.

what i think is that you should get a cheap ps3 from ebay and use that as a blu-ray player and if you get a ps3 you can store movies and music and stuff. but to be honest i understand that you blu-ray because you converted all you files to blu-ray.

but i think it total waste of time since you want have a hd monitor in your car , well unless if you put a massive monitor in your car

No manufacturer will ever produce a Blu-Ray player meant for automobile use. You're going to have to buy from what's available now. Blu-Ray disc drive for CarPC or PS3.

I don't think a BD drive for CarPC is going to pass DRM. Blu-Ray movies requires you to have a motherboard, video card, AND monitor that supports HDCP. None of which are available on a CarPC. So it's PS3 or bust... Or a laptop w/ BD.
