Bose head unit - Volume

Just curious, but how high can you safely turn the volume on the Bose unit without risking damage to the speakers? I occasionally crank it up to 17-18, and wanna be sure I'm not going to damage anything.

When I am alone, windows down, sunroof open, 21-23, sometimes up to 25 depending on the song. No damage.

I generally don't go above 26, however I was listening to White Zombie today and it just didn't seem loud at 26 so I cranked it to 30 with no problem. I listen to a lot of electronic stuff like Skinny Puppy and Front Line Assembly and I usually find its pretty good around 26, though any higher than that and things start to rattle a little too much. I'm not worried as much about damaging the speakers as I am about loosening up parts with the vibrations and having it cause them to rattle all the time even when the radio is off.

I LOVE ZOMBIE!!!!!! Anyway, I had to get my driver door speaker replaced.....some humming/rattling was going on and this was only at like 11-16.....Mazda said that speaker controls the voltage on all the rest and that a replacement would stop the noise. Well, after replacing it......no more noise, but I have to turn it up about 7 notches louder than before to hear it.....funny. Then they broke a part on my door and tried to fix it with glue and white compound (on black leather....ok like that is not going to show up) and didn't even tell me about it......found the part and the mess myself and notified them......stupid lazy technicians.....they ordered the part - a week later...WRONG PART ORDERED.....idiots....finally after another week....got my part. I wish they would get their act together......I'm about to just find a personal mechanic! Seems I have more damage to my car when I take it to Mazda....thought that was supposed to be the safest place to take it!

I think I might have that same noise. When I turn mine up to about 17 and I get this really anoying rattle/buzzing sound from the driver side door speaker. At first I thought it was part of the song because I was listening to a new CD, but then I noticed it with other songs. Next time I have to bring the car in I was planning on asking them to fix it, but I'm worried they'll break something else. I have kind of gotten used to it, but I'll probably have them replace it anyways.

The technicians break everything......I've had so many problems with my Mazda dealer....scratched my rims....TWICE! a rip on the tire and then they blame it on me.....I inspect everything before I bring it....get scuffs in my car on the consoles, floor, etc. ....scratches......stuff on my leather....stinky oil man smells....Wish they had respect for other people's property.

The speaker was still under warranty and I haven't heard any rattling or humming since it was replaced.....unless I turn the bass and volume way up.....so problem solved (for now).

This is good... Just wasn't sure if the stock amp/speaker combo was capable of blowing a woofer. Some of the songs I have REALLY hit hard. Granted, any time I turn the volume to 17/18, I turn the Bass setting to 0 just to be safe... Do you make any adjustment to that when you have yours up over 20?

Nope. I keep my treble and bass settings the same regardless of how loud my music is. But then again, my hearing is very sensitive and anything close to 17/18 is too loud for me.

Oh yeah I should mention I have my bass set to -1 because it was drowning out the treble too much. I also have the treble +1 and the fade -1 to the back speakers. This give it more of a full sound. With the fade at 0 it just sounded like everything was comming from the winsheild. These setting work for me, but obviously this is just what sounds good in my opinion so take it for what you will.

for a few minutes at a time, that's how long I can stand it, I have kept the volume at MAX VOL, with no distortion that I can hear. (though it drowns out any bass from the subwoofer at that volume 'cause my sub-amp is only 200W). I don't think anything can be damaged by high volumes except your ears.

Bose systems are pretty hard to blow. I can run mine at 32 with no problem.

I don't think the max volume is all that loud comparatively speaking. Especially when listening to FM. For 300 Watts it's not all that loud but it is pretty clear.......to a non audiophile that is.

Question

I listen to a lot of electronics too and i leave it my bass 6 and treble at 5. I usually turn it up to 15-17. I havent had any problems yet. I have the 300 watt 9 speaker bose system. I don't know much about audio but I want to add a little bass, just a little. None of that rattle throughout the car but just enough for my pleasure. Can I crank it up anymore. Is my bass too high?

Lol, totally forgot I'd posted this thread.

I have my bass on 6, vol. at 16-18 once in awhile as well. Seems to handle it perfectly well. Haven't really gotten the courage to push it beyond ~22 for any length of time, though. lol

I've been listening to electronic music heavily for over 11 years now and I must recommend to you all two spectacular groups:

Astral Projection (old school Israeli Goa Trance)
and
Holymen (new school Israeli Goa Trance)

This isn't the boring trance you are thinking of this is serious stuff...:D we should open a RX8club bittorrent site

I've turned it up to 30~31 playing 50cent for a while and the bass I guess kind of blew the driver door speaker, I can hear rattling~cracking from it-are those under warranty? For how long?

Maybe I should start promoting hearing aids on this thread ;-) - Guys the general rule of thumb is that if you can't hear yourself speaking at a normal tone of voice then you are damaging your hearing.... I love loud music but I love to be able to hear even more so I never try to push my Bose system beyond 16-17.
