Is Bose really worth the extra money?

FIrst of all , I just got my Rx8 today. Its a 05 manual transmisson with touring package on it. I dont really care about sunroof( I found out they are useless to me). I was going for TOurgin package becasue of BOse PRemium system on that package. But I realize its not even as good as my Onkyo Home Theater system I bought last year for 399. Is it really worth the money??? How much DIfference are those bose speakers compare to original speakers on Rx8??

Please tell me Ya there is a big dfference to make me feel littel better.

I think the bose are decent. Crisp clean tweeter and enough bass. If you want soemthing the whole neighborhood can hear then don't go with the bose. I'm comparing the bose to a high end infinty system I had about 2 years ago.

I find it sounds great. If you have sat radio it won't matter what you have it will still sound like garbage. According to Billy Joel you get more mileage from a cheap pair of speakers so I guess it's sound quality vs durablity.

As djseto said, it has been debated (i think more than) a million times. The consensus is this: The Bose system sounds far superior than the base radio, but a far cry from an entry level aftermarket system. It all depends on what YOU like. I feel that the price for the Touring Package would not be worth it for the Bose, but add in the moonroof & the killer HomeLink self dimming mirror & it is worth it. (I think it is worth it just not to have a garage door opener uglying up the place.) I love my moonroof! Peace!!

Well...I use to ballclutch BOSE auto systems alot; but honestly, they are not worth the extra money -- Especially when the components start to go bad, because they are $$$$ to replace. Now compaired to the factory speakers--it is much much better; the Base speakers are pathetic-those where the first thing to go when I got my RX8.

The BOSE is for owners who don't fancy blasting bass heavy music but couldn't live with base radio sound.

The Bose sounds fair at best. It is a total PITA to replace the speakers. Bose is more about marketing and sound manipulation than following basic principles of how music should sound. They could have just as easily put in some higher grade door speakers and front tweeters and eliminated the "center" speaker and the rear tweeter. Even with the dash mounted center speaker the vocals still come from way down at the bottom of the door.

I took my car in to see about getting a "Bosectomy" and was told that most Bose speakers are so cheap that even if they sound good new a couple of years down the road the sound quality starts to detereriate.

I have a GT, and would like to have everything but the Bose. It may sound better than the base system, but it is much more expensive to upgrade.

Oh and they will deteriorate -- I've had two Millenia S and my FD had the BOSE sound--trust me-once $h*t starts to go downhill you are gonna regret ever getting BOSE. A BOSEctomy (mcstin your term has just been stolen) is required if you want to switch out any single component.

I think what you need to do is weigh out the entire package you are getting...ie what else comes with the package (a lot)....I happened to like the Bose cuz Im not looking for something to shake the foundations of peoples homes, etc or to actually be a nuisance...Its very adequate for my use....
Ive got sat radio, came with the car....would never go back to regular radio!!

The "tweeters" mounted on the doors in the Bose system are actually mid-range speakers.

Bose = no highs, no lows.
