Boston Acoustics Competition Audio System Commencing
Well, I've about had it with the stock (non-Bose) audio system in the 8. Its so plain, it makes my ears bleed. So... I'm going to make my ears bleed in a DIFFERENT way... a HAPPY way.
Tomorrow, work commences on replacement of the factory speakers, amp and wiring installations, and subs.
So, I've selected and purchased all of my new audio system except the subwoofer amp and 4080's boxes (waiting for him to get back to me) and I've come up with this (everything already is on its way to me except what I didn't purchase yet):
Boston Acoustics Z6 - 6.5 Two Way Competition Component System for up front.
Boston Acoustics Pro60 - 6.5 Two Way Competition Component System for rears.
Two Boston Acoustics Competition G5 10 Inch Subwoofers in 4080's boxes.
Alpine MRV-F545 4 Channel V12 Amplifier @ minimum 125w x 4 to power the front and rear Boston components.
Alpine MRD-M1005 V12 Digital Mono Amplifier @1000 Watts to power the Boston G5 Subs.
And of course, all the nice 4 gauge speaker wire and stuff. A bit pricey but by next weekend, the components will be in and I'll be deciding whether or not one Boston G5 will be enough bass for me (it probably will).

My system goes in on the 5th of May. Fronts are Boston Pro 6.5.3 and rears are Boston Pro 6.5. Subs will be a pair of Boston 12.5s and I will be running them off of JL amps and a Kenwood HU.

I appreciate the help. Now if only my 12 would fit in the trunk I would be good to go.

vdelvec,
Do you know for sure the Z6 bass driver fits in the door ?
I cannot find the depth on the boston site anywhere.
I emailed them to ask.
They come with several mounting brackets.
Hopefully 1 of them will work !

I have a door apart right now, mounting depth we are playing with is about 3.25". You are going to have to make a mounting adaptor for the door speaker as the speaker mount itself is approx 8" wide.

Well, everything is in except the subs. The sound is infinitely better. The head unit isn't all that great but I plan on cleaning that up with either a custom aftermarket radio install or a Audio Control 3.1 or JL Cleansweep.

I picked up your post regarding Boston speakers, and am responding to ask some questions about your speaker choices. I have had Boston speakers in my previous car and they are great. I want to install Bostons in my 2005 RX-8 which I bought with the Bose system. I agree with you the Bose system (for all the hype) is pretty dismal with regard to sound quality.
Here are the questions: What happens to the tweeters in the upper front doors when using the Z-6 6.5 two ways in the doors? Do the tweeters in the upper door (mounted at the mirror post) work in tandem with the tweeter in the Bostons? The same question applies to the rear deck speakers. Do these 4' tweeters there work in tandem with the Pro 60 two-ways you used?
At this point I am interested only in replacing the speakers without any additional hardware changes such as amps, etc. The system as is should be able to drive the new Bostons quite well, shouldn't it?
Thanks for your insights - MARK

NO. You will need new amps. Read the audio install reference sticky thread. The Bose speakers run at very low impedence and the amps will not drive your aftermarket speakers. I dont have the specs in front of me, but do searching and you'll find all the answers you need. This topic has been discussed a ton
