Broken Visor
#277
Another broken visor post? Sheesh, I can save newcomers a lot of time: the original visors weren't designed well. Some broke, some didn't. The broken ones were replaced. Some broke again, some didn't. The visors were recently re-designed so they don't break anymore.
(Doesn't that beat reading 278 posts?)

I live in Las Vegas, and I have had both visors swapped every 7 to 8 months until the warranty was up. The visors are $145 a piece here. The dealer said there is nothing that can be done, but replace them as they break. He also said there is no Mazda cloth visor to replace the plastic ones with. Right now I'm looking into stereo shops that replace factory visors with ones with TV screens. I'm hoping I can find a suitable replacement without a tv screen. If I find a replacement, I will be sure to post.

I guess I'll throw in my story as well.
I bought my 06 used with 4k miles on it. The only thing wrong with the car was that the driver's side visor was broken where the rod actually clipped into the visor. Anyways, I sort of brushed it off and eventually after a couple weeks, when I hit a bump, it would fall down and get in my way.
That night I decided to take it off and try and get it replaced the next day at the dealer. I tried to just simply take it off but come to find out, it has two power wires running to the light in it, makes sense. So I decided to continue with taking it off just unclip the power wires from the light. Everything went fine and I got the visor off. After that though, the wires were hanging down so I went to wrap them around the rod that was holding the visor on and I crossed the ground and power. Not too good. I didn't know it at the time but I blew a fuse and the radio wouldn't work, the locks had to be done manually, and a few of the interior lights wouldn't work.
I was rather upset by that time so I called up the dealer bright and early and headed on in. Of course I just played the "It just stopped working" angle. Turns out they fixed it in under an hour and I was on my way.

I have officially joined the broken visor club.
My driver side visor broke this afternoon when I was out for lunch. I looked at the passenger side and it's also starting to split. Getting it fixed tomorrow under warranty.

Man seems like if I don't call the dealer, they won't call me. I called today to ask if the visor was there. They said their system didn't show it came. But then the guy put me on hold and checked their stock and it 'came in today'. Same thing happened when I went in for the brake squeal. I just happen to check up on the status of it the same day the shipment arrived...hmmmm....
anyways getting my driver's side visor replaced this saturday...

Yah mine broke twice, one last year, and one recently, both happened during summer time, i think it's the cheap glue that they used which can't withstand the heat, especially if you parked your car outdoor for long period of time, i put my hand around the visor, and feel like there's glue melted around the opening, and i'm kinda pissed that dealer doesn't stock these if they know this is a common problem, i have to make appointment and wait for the parts to come in and get installed, waste of time !! what can you do, i luv my car but these stupid problem pissed me off.....

I believe the visors have a design flaw. Ours came apart exposing the made in China look or post WWII Japan products. Haven't had an engine replaced yet ( 05 with MT and ~17Kmi). Take special pains to warm it up and invoke shut down procedure ( hold at 3krpms and kill engine). Just love that car. We rented a Chrysler Crossfire in Fort Lauderdale for the drive to Key West. Can't touch the RX-8, with the exception of the visors,

Well I joined the visor club today as well. It seems like there are many of us in here! Does anyone know if there was an official recall on these? I have 54K I am pretty sure my dealership won't cover. I had to pull teeth just to get my 50k service done!

Hey all, i have an 04 model rx8 and my visor broke, drivers side, so i tried taking it off because it was annoying me. I accidentally touched the red and black wires together and I lost my audio and my gages started freaking out and also the power locks stopped working, it was an easy fix, if you guys happen to make this same mistake you will blow whats called the "room" fuse. In the o4 model it's in the inside fuse box not the one under the hood last fuse at the bottom, this fuse is also listed in the manual if your unsure how to locate it.

I fixed my tail lights with some silicon around the gasket, just take the tail light off and seal the gasket, i read somwhere in this thread someone was saying to put a hole in the bottom corner of the tail light, this is unecessary the condensation will dissappear in a couple days on its own.

Both my visors need to be replaced ('06, 18,000 mi.). It sure doesn't sound like they've revised the part from what I'm reading. So many recent replacements breaking again. Or is Mazda just unloading all the old stock?
I hope I get an improved version.

My warrenty (48 months) ran out exactly 30 days before the second visor popped. I asked my service director if they were planning on replacing it for free and he said he would check on it. The official response was that the Mazda representative said that they would not replace the visor a second time. I asked for the Mazda rep's contact information so I could pursue it further and told the service director that I did not hold him responsible, but that this is a safety issue and Mazda should recall ALL of them!
When I visited the dealer to have a previously ordered part installed, I was informed that the dealer would cover the second replacement. If any of you are getting resistance, I suggest you play the safety card. Its surprising that having the visor flapping in your face or going without, during a clear sunny afternoon hasn't caused any accidents!

My driver side visor just broke yesterday. It took 88,000 miles and three years to break. I hope the replacement lasts as long since I'll have to pay for this.
I had to just take it off and throw it in the trunk because it kept falling down in my face. I guess I better give the dealer a call so they can get the part in. I'll just wait until my next oil change to get it fixed. I'm afraid to look at the passenger one! It's hardly ever used, so hopefully it'll hang in there.

I read page 1 then 10 and 11, so I'm not sure this was answered... but... Are peopel still curious why there are holes in it? Have you seen how low our windshield is? The salesman was not being a smartass when saying "so you can see through them". That IS why they have holes in them. They were pointed out that way by the product guy during the rotary Roadshow. If I'm not mistaken, we're going back 4 years here, it was mandated that they be made that way due to the height of the windshield. I remember hearing "To get the lines and curviness that we were looking for, some sacrifices had to be made..."
