Broken Visor
#302
Dealer replaced my driver's side. They apparently keep those in stock, but they aren't used to the passenger side breaking (probably because they get less use), so they had to order that.
The previous owner probably flipped them both down when parking in the sun. That's what I usually do.

My driver's side broke last week. Exactly 3 days after the 4th anniversary of taking new delivery. I have to call the dealer and see if they will take care of it under warranty. In four years, that might have been the 10th time that I ever used the visor and it's the first interior piece I've ever had a problem with.

If the dealer doesn't want to replace it for free, ask them to check with Mazda. Mention that its a safety hazard and that it should have been a full-fledged recall. When I did this, last spring, my dealer told me that Mazda would not pay for it. I asked for the name of the Mazda rep that told them this so I could contact him directly. The dealer caved and I got my visor for free.
If your visor is as floppy as mine was, you either take it off or hold it up while you're driving. That's a safety hazard! Also, they rarely have them in stock, so you have to wait a week or more before it will be replaced! Good luck!

Both of mine broke and were replaced by the dealer. The passenger side broke the second time it was used. I jokingly yelled at my wife for using it to block the sun. How dare we actually need to use our visors. Actually I've never owned a new car with so many problems. 2 visors. 2 tail lights (condensation) 1 headlight (condensation). Why can't they just make stuff that works? Yeah, I'm getting a little pissed off. Sorry

Took it to the dealer today and they replaced the driver side visor.
They wanted to be stupid about it and charge me for being 1 week out of warranty. I pushed back at that and then they wanted me to pay for the 15k service ($110 dollars for a long list of services that consist of nothing more than looking at stuff I know is perfectly fine. I pushed back on that they sent out the service manager. He said that he needed Mazda's permission to perform the work one week out of warranty and would have to call them. I said fine and proceeded to pull out my cell phone and ask for the phone number. I said that I'd love to talk to Mazda and remind them that they have had a TSB out on this defective part for 4 years and that when it fell down in front of my face after hitting a dip in the road I almost hit a pedestrian and that I'd follow up this call with a call to the NTSB and DOT... He told me to put the phone away and proceeded to write it up as a warranty repair.
I always wonder if the service writers actually believe that all the customers are total idiots or they are just bored and want to entertain themselves by pissing off people who are already annoyed that they have to get their car fixed.

My visor story
My visor broke recently and I have been putting off replacing it until I have to get an oil change. It was generally staying upright.
Unfortunately the visor finished breaking the other night, I got in my car and started it and was trying to get the visor to stay up when all of a sudden I blew something and then the radio and stuff was off and I got a CEL. I have an appointment to drop the car off wed. and they will fix it all under warranty.

Old thread but ...
I have an 07 BB with the sand leather and was thinking about ordering black visors as a small (but expensive!) interior mod if they were available. But after reading all this about broken visors, I don't know if they would be worth it. I still think it would look good, though.

Both broke under warentee.
After warrenty one broke (was extreemly careful and still broke).
Placed a screw & nut to hold together (seems to work)
The dealer said that they break easy (bad design)
I am looking for a non-mazda after market replacement, no luck so far.

Well, it's eleventeen gajillion million degrees here (it was about 55 a week ago), so add me to the list of people who have broken this thing. Agree with above poster, it looks pretty nasty in there.
I'm not particularly upsat that it broke, I mean, crap happens. What bothers me is that my SOB Mazda dealer has NO time for me for 3 days yet. Normally this isn't a big deal but I have to drive out there (thank goodness it's close and won't cost me $20 in gas to get there), have them look inside and say "Gee, that IS broke" and decide they have to order me a new one, which I will then have to WAIT for and GO BACK to the dealership for.
In the meantime I guess I would just take it off...

They actually had a visor in stock at my dealer, so I was there for all of like 10 minutes and I don't have to go back now.
It was repaired under warranty as well, so that was a bonus.
Socket7 - as for slapping some epoxy on there, could you do it and make sure that you didn't wind up gluing it stiff? Seems to me like epoxying might cause it to stick. Just a thought.

My driver's side visor broke yesterday on my drive home and I'm noticing a crack on the passenger side visor as well (right along the same seam where the driver's side broke). My car is still well within the factory warranty.
Took her to my local dealership today - the Service Manager looked over the issue, wrote up the order and I'll get two new visors put in around the middle of next week. I was in and out in less than 10 minutes -- no hassles whatsoever.

There's a TSB on faulty sun visors for model years '04, '05 & '06 (up to July '06). My car was manufactured in January '06, so it seems my car came with the faulty visor. I'm looking forward to getting the new ones installed!
Ouch. New ones run about $120 a each iirc. Be weary about buying a used one unless it is coming off of a '07 or '08 model.

My car is at the dealer as I type this. New front visors should be in within the next 1/2 hour. According to the TSB, the replacement visors are not the same as the old ones, and should correct this problem.

What pointy ears?
It corrected the problem for me I replaced the 2nd set back in Feb/Mar timeframe. So far the new and improved version have stood up to 100F+ conditions (I don't have covered parking where I work) with no hint of splitting. I think they just changed the type of adhesive since the look the same as the previous versions.

Yeah a lot of the time they just take it down and apply adhesive. They did that twice to me, i knew because i made a little mark on the visors before i got them changed. It seems to be holding. If it happens again ill ask for brand new visors.

Two brand new sun visors and I'm a happy boy. This is what a warranty is for - and I had a pleasant experience at the dealership. I plan on buying another rotary vehicle in the future as long as Mazda brings that 16X to our shores.
