My guess would be it's so they don't have to make different visors for right hand drives.

man i love this forum! i did have the problem with a sunvisor for months... like it sort of hanged loose and weird cracking sounds when i'd put it down & up. i also did go to service and they quoted the same $105.

something is seriously wrong with the visors if couple others having problems too. even i can see my passenger visor starting to become loose and crack. i never treat them harsh i just put them down and up when the sun is in my eyes.

i hope nothing else falls or comes apart...

If you do a search for the hole question, you'll find some old thread, somewhere, where someone quotes the promotional materials as saying the holes are there to evoke a light-weight racing feel.

Broken visor

My driver's side visor broke last week - exactly as described above. Went by the dealership and they ordered me a new one (which I found out yesterday is on backorder because apparently there are quite a few us with this problem) and said it would be covered under warranty.

I went to the dealership and had them order the driver side visor under warranty. Then my friend gets in the car and I explain to him what happened with the driver side visor. So he pulls the passenger side visor down and sure enough, that fu**er broke as well. So now I get to make another trip to the dealership. This is the kind of crap that makes me question mazda's quality assurance department. Did they even think to test these vehicles in hot climates?

Thumbs down

I was sick and the wife took the car in to work. When she came home she was upset because she broke the drivers visor.
It has always worked hard and snapped back. It split down the back so now it hangs down so you cannot drive without holding it up. Of course I have to drive to the dealer just sothe can say, yeh its broke. When will dealers realize if they really want people to come back to them when it's out of warrenty they have to provide customer service before.

Same thing happened to my driver's side on Friday 7/2. Looks like Fred Sanford's driving it now since I have masking tape holding it to the door jamb and the sunglass holder until the replacement arrives. The dealer said it would be covered under warranty.

My driver's side also broke. I ended up taking it off which was fairly easy. The thing just pulls apart and the clips come off after pressing in.

Hopefully the dealer will have it in today considering they said it would be in yesterday.

Guys, if your driver side visor broke, it won't be long until the passenger side one breaks. Having broken both of mine, I can tell you that pulling the visors down when the interior of the car is extremely hot (sitting in the sun all day) is a surefire way to snap the visor along the back seam. Like I said, I wonder what kind of Q&A testing Mazda did, because even my Nav system has trouble opening up when the interior is hot. The plastic around the LCD screen seems to catch on the back.

Unhappy Broken Sun Visor

My driver's side visor broke on Friday evening on a hot night here in Dallas. I will be calling the dealer to get it fixed under warranty. Mine was hanging down and blocking my view of everything so I just yanked it off like others have described doing. What a cheap piece of plastic junk it seems to be. Very disappointing.

I haven't used mine--so it's still "functional" in theory, now I don't want to use it. Are they replacing it with a better part, or should one expect the replacement to break in the same manor under similar conditions?

Thanks.

yes, mine broke too -- DEFINITELY was covered under warranty and had NO PROBLEM at all. My issue is this: I use them to hold up my sunshade to try to protect my dash from the heat. I have to let them down when its hot inside the car to remove the sunshade (duh?)--anyway, what happens when warranty's up and they're still bustin'??

wont' be happy camper then.

Both Mine

Have had to replace both of mine. That, with ALL of the many, many squeaks and rattles in this car blows my mind...

These visors are a piece of junk. If you have to remove one it is easy just unscrew it and gently pull out the wire and there will be a white clip. Push down on the little tongue and it will release. The wires are fro the lighted mirror. Looks like a lot are breaking. If yours kind of pops when you raise and lower it it will break soon.

And you've got a few years left on your warranty, so either you or Mazda will get sick of replacing your visors every few months so either you will stop bringing your car in or Mazda will redesign the silly things...

Anyone else have this problem?

The parts guy at the dealer said this is the second one he has had to order.

I have to say the innards look sort of cheaply made.

YES ! happened to me to, covered under warranty!

I consulted the dealer on my broken visor. He stated that it is covered by the warranty. He also confirmed what ALWAZL8 said about them being on back order. I still haven't heard when they expect to have a replacement in. It just makes me feel sick to get in my beautiful 8 every morning and look up at the broken remains of the visor. I guess I'll have to craft something out of duck tape to hide the ugly blemish!
