Dealer finally received my new visor, and intalled it today in 30 minutes, under warranty. Now I use a baseball cap to cut the sun. The cap has a blue and white circle logo on it (motorrad branch)

Anyone with an '06 get their visor replaced recently?

Mine broke a few weeks ago. The dealer told me it was back-ordered until the 28th. Now, he's telling me Sept. 5th.

Wondering if anyone else is getting the runaround? Is there anything I can do to speed this up? Why aren't we all filing a class action on this (any lawyers on this board)? Seems like it's a pretty common thing.

This isn't a "wear" issue. I had my new rx8 for only a month, and barely used the visor cuz I only drive on the weekends. And I agree that this is a safety issue. Especially if you do alot of driving at dawn or dusk when the sun could be in your eyes making it hard to see oncoming traffic and stoplights.

Ive had the driver side replaced under warranty. The original one lasted me about a year and I use it several times a day. Dealer said hes replaced several already. The replacement has held up so far and its been over a year since its been replaced.

Another class action idiot. What are your damages to something covered under warranty! One of the major problems in America is whiners like that. Tort reform is needed!!!

Add me to the list of broken driver's side visors. The visor has been making a nasty noise everytime I would shut it. Finally today, it made a big craackk and split open right where the defect is. Now it hangs fully down and can stay up in either direction. I suppose its better than not being able to pull down at all. But sucks either way.

Took it to the dealer today for them to take a look at. The service guy took a look and pretty much said we'll order you one and replace under warranty. Hopefully the part won't take too long to get in.

I've only had this used car for a month and only 600 miles. I hope its not an inauspicious sign. I get the car and now the big engine recall is underway.

So any 2006's having the problem or did Mazda finally figure out they need to redesign it?

Well, I love my car but I have had the driver side visor replaced for the fourth time today. I finally made a stink and got my transmission fluid changed for free. I know it's not the dealers fault but they need to get a replacement part made quick. It will suck when we are out of warranty. That visor is $100.00.

When the car is out or warranty--it's going to be a costly expense. I wonder if there is something we can do to prevent it from falling apart.

Any suggestions?

I looked at it today and could not figure a way to fix it. How about we have the dealers give us ten each for future use:D

Maybe we should all write Mazda so they can install a redesigned visor.

The only reason nobody is experience broken passenger visors that much is that the passenger visor gets a lot less use than the driver. I should break mine before warranty runs out. Maybe both of them.

I had my passenger replaced once but no one ever uses it. MOve it back and forth about 20 times and I guarantee it will break.

Is that a dare?

I guess we could all get really good sunglasses and forget about using the visor. I guess I'll have to fix my hair in the rearview mirror.

It does seem that alot of people haven't had problems. So are a lot of broken visor victims just not piping in on this thread?

First of all, scottmhr1, the cost of replacing something under warranty is Time. And yeah, I don't know about you, but my time is goddam valuable to me. I have better things to do than spend 30 minutes over the phone trying to figure out if the parts department has my visor in stock, only to find out its a month away, and then have to drive down to the dealership on a weekend to get it replaced so I can take my damn sunglasses off once in awhile. And from the likes of it, it sounds like this problem is frequent enough that it should have been fixed by the 3rd year (2006 with less than 1k miles). I've moved the sun shade a total of a dozen times at most, before it broke. That's just sh*tty quality. I don't care if they farm the part out to some factory in a third world country, just make sure I don't have to get it fixed after I've had the car for less than a month. Even my old Ford Tempo didn't have this problem...

Why not class action lawsuit? Hold a big goddam corporation accountable for once. Don't you WANT power as a consumer, or would you rather have it handed to you and fork over the $$.

Oh yeah, and there's going to be a time when your warranty ain't going to save you and you'll be crying class-action when you have to dish out the $100+ for one cheap, plasticky visor that you KNOW ain't going to last. Nice luck with THAT.

Class action or not. Mazda SHOULD have fixed it after the first year when they saw a spike in visor mirror replacements.

Class action?

To those of you willing to take action to change the visor, take a few minutes and file a complaint with the DOT. If they get enough complaints, we may see a recall:

DOT Complaint Form

I filed a complaint because it was truly dangerous when the visor broke while I was driving. The visor was hanging by the wires and blocked my view. I had to hold it out of the way with my left hand, steer with my right and shift with my other hand.

Visors

We just bought our RX-8 yesterday. We pick it up tomorrow - because they are fixing the visor!

Two of the RX-8's on the lot had broken visors and a third broke while we were looking at it. We bought one of the cars anyway - it's clearly a very poor design. The technician tried to say it was because of the heat. That may be true but that is not reassuring here in Tucson - it was only 90 yesterday and is 110 in the summer.

I hope Mazda wises up - aside from the cracking, who would put holes in the visor to let sun through when it's purpose is to block the sun?

The visor should be covered by your warranty. We will be taking the thing back every time it breaks for the next 48 months or 48000 miles!

But as annoying as it is, the visor problem was not enough to keep us from buying an awesome car!

The holes actually are very helpful and IMO a good idea. They block enough sun but still allow you to see through which is very helpfull at a stop light.

PDX and I think alike... I like the holes to peak out every now and then see when the light turns green. The only problem I have with the damn things is they break way too easily.

I took my car to get the driver's visor fixed. The parts dept. ordered the passenger one. UGH!!!

So now I have gone back to keeping it closes to the windshield with non-residue leaving blue masking tape.

Just for reference, my driver's visor was reordered by a dealer in Calif. on Monday and it arrived Thursday. So much shorter than a lot of people waiting weeks.

Mine broke a few days ago. That's so crazy how so many people are having this problem. I just pulled it down and it cracked! I just got my car a couple of months ago so I am not paying a single cent for that. They better fix it under my warranty!! Hope they do it soon too because everytime I'm driving really fast or on a sort of rough road it keeps falling down unecessarily =(

haha yahh I don't think the dealer could even tell me why the visor had holes in it when I went to buy my car. He said "it sensors a certain percentage of the sun" lmao. i just hope that my visor doesn't break AGAIN after getting a new one ordered. It sucks how I'm gonna have to be careful EVERY single time I pull it down now? =(
