Car Alarm for M/T RX8

Hey guys, I was just looking around trying to find a good alarm system that'll work with my M/T 04 RX8. I currently have the factory system that Locks/Unlocks the doors and has a remote trunk button. I was looking for one that could utilize the same features but also have the remote start feature. What are you guys using? I was looking into a Viper car alarm but that's going to be about 700 bucks and I still don't know for sure if they can do it because I have a M/T. Any suggestions or advice? Thanks...

remote starts are always going to be tricky on an MT.

you'd have to bypass the neutral lockout and remember to never leave your car in gear.

i have the viper on my car with the remote start. just bring it to an alarm shop or something and they should be able to do it for you. its not really a big deal... the only thing you will need for that is an auto start bypass module and an extra rx8 programmed key.

Thanks, I'll have to call up there and ask if they can do that... Why the extra programmed key? (I have one just curious)

because they need to insert the keys chip inside the autostart module. i suggest you not to use one of the two keys which you have. go on ebay or something and find a blank rx8 key (i believe they cost around $15 shipped or something) and go to a hardware store or home depot to get it carved and program it yourself, so you can use that for you alarm instead of the ones you have. the reason why i am telling you not to use the ones you have is because in the future if you ever need to make an extra key for you 8, you would need 2 keys to program the new key.

You can't use a switchblade key anyway. It will not fit in the bypass module. The bypass module physically splits in half and the key goes inside. You should have gotten a valet key with purchase of your car. This would work perfectly.

And any shop that tells you installing in a MT car is "tricky", I suggest finding another shop. It shows inexperience.

As for price, depends if you want the 2-way communication with LCD remote or not. I do the Python 990 for $600 installed. Bypass module is $50 extra. This comes with a lifetime warranty on labor and product. 2-way w/o the LCD remote will save you a hun or so.

EDIT: After posting this I realized our security systems were on sale for the holidays. Python 990 is running $449 installed. Python 872 is $399 installed. Bypass is still $50 extra.

just remember to always leave your car in neutral when parked if you plan on using your remote start because if you leave it in gear the car will jerk forward and you might hit somebody or something. dont want to get sued.

the reason that shops cant install a remstart on a m/t car is because of the liability. if a shop installs it and you leave it in first to remstart it and it goes into the woods than the shop becomes responsible for your accident. so it doesnt show inexperience but its set for liability. trust me. i know

I'm using the CompuSTAR PRO alarm... without the starter (don't really need it and I don't want to risk flooding it).

The alarm itself is great. 2way pager, knock sensor, tilt sensor... really loud when hooked up to Hella Horns :D

The Compustar Pro is built from the ground up for a manual transmission vehicle and is one of it not the best 2way type alarm starters at this time.

Would this be a good deal: link

I don't think I could install this but is this enough for what I need? I'm looking for one with the LCD. For me I'm leery about the auto-start myself because sometimes the car will start up in 1 sec sometimes it takes 2 seconds... I'd rather not flood my engine as well but has anyone here run into any of those issues with your auto-starters? (It's cold now here that's why my car takes longer to start)

Yeah I can't find anyone in my city that is reputable to install it in my M/T. They coincide with what you mention... Ugh headaches...

If you don't think you can install it..... then there's no way in hell you can. LOL It's not for the faint of heart.

I've never installed that brand before. Don't even know if they're a major player for security systems. Use DEI products and never look back.

The system knows when the car has/has not started. In fact, if it fails to start, it will pause and retry.
