CarPC Install
Hi folks!!!
Happy Easter. A few of you gave me some assistance a while back and I said I would post the results of my install when completed.
Well, I am 95% done (tweaking here and there) and here are the results.
http://neoak.endofinternet.net/
I made the page very basic. Only pictures. The alt text has the description. If your browser does not support alt text mouseover my apologies. You can right click on the photo and view properties to get the image description if a photo interests you.
Thanks for all the help!

The dishwasher instructions were clutch. If I did not have those I could not have gone forward with this. Many thanks to all who wrote the instructions; especially the folks who can not spell. They made it all possible.
Thanks. I still have more stuff to do but from here on out it should be cake. I spent many days tearing apart, resetting, redoing and rethinking all aspects of the install. I am pleased with the outcome.

While I have everyone's attention, what is a good, non-corrosive, sound-deadening foam? My lcd bracket has a rattle when going over bumpy roads that drives me nutters.

Added a few more pics... mostly of the passthrough. I did not like the heat building up in the trunk so I had the passthrough perforated and clothed. Under intense light (like a flash) you can see the holes from the front but underl normal daylight it is unnoticeable and blends right in with the seats.
Also put some images of road runner up. Enjoy.

Looks nice. I do have a suggestion. Instead of having your usb cable hanging loose like that, why don't you buy a small 2-3 port usb hub and install in the ashtray. That way it stays hidden when not in use (and you can charge stuff like cell phones and camaras with it). Looks good though.

I thought about putting the cable in the center console between the seats.
Something like this....

Hi AvatarQAZ
You may also want to consider this, I've also got a seven port usb hub in the glove box. Usb ports mounted in the center console are a bit of a pain to get to (I've done it didn't like it).
It's a Vantec 4 port usb hub that I chopped up and epoxied in place.
I like it better than a hub in the ashtray

That is awesome work!!!
One thing I have found, with hubs especially, is the lack of ample USB power through them. My thumb drive wont even get recognized behind a hub on my cable right now (10 feet). Have you experienced that problem?

i notice the gauges tab on your screen.
for quite awhile i've been playing with the idea of doing something similar but focused on displaying gauges on the screen. with something like the scanalyzer.
any have any info/input on this?

What disassembly portion are you looking for? I can easily produce many a walkthrough of desired...
Yeah yeah yeah, I know . I had my car torn apart for about 3 weeks and refused to vacuum it until I had everything put back together. The FIRST thing I did after I got the car back together was go back to my trusty detailing place.
I will have more pics coming here soon of additional work done as well.

Wow, I have a lot of replies to craft. Here goes!!!
I have not gotten to the point of researching this. They have bluetooth ODBII dongles that plug into the bus on ODBII cars. Of course, that will not work for us. I have not had the time to research a CAN bluetooth dongle. I have thought about using the dongle that comes with scanalyzer but hear that it is touchy when you convert it to USB... especially with the distance it would need to travel to get data back to the PC. But, you can embed scanalyzer in RoadRunner (and Digital FX-the skin) to run as an external application inside the window. So it is completely possible.
Did the research!!! http://store.mo-co-so.com/bluetooth-...face-p-31.html
Can Hymee confirm if his software is capable of interfacing through bluetooth? Can it be?
It works great!!! Once in a while, when the computer resumes, RoadRunner does not recognize the device or it get lost in the resume settings. A simple restart of roadrunner fixes this though and all is good!

The adapter plugs in the back of your radio into the cd changer port. It has a stereo out (3.5mm headphone jack) and a usb out. Commands and info are sent to/from the usb.
With roadrunner you can play music just about any way you want to. It uses winamp as its backend and plays all music through winamp sucking the ID3 tags into the application. You can build your lists in RoadRunner or winamp and either will save them and be able to use them. Also, the standard hierarchy is Artist>Album>Song. So you can create a playlist based on artist or album by simply clicking on the artist or album and selecting it. Bam, all songs from that artist or album loaded.
Breakdown: (these are estimates, i can not recall the exact amount)
PC=400
Touchscreen=300
Send radio for upgrade=150
car2pc=75
navhood=300
misc cables=150
misc supplies (power butt connectors, additional wires, mounting stuff)=50
*iguidance software=100
*windows=100
Total ~1425 (round up to 1500 to be safe)
*not included in end price
Are you talking about the factory nav hood?! I am probably going to be taking apart my dash again to deaden my LCD bracket so it does not rattle. I can take plenty of pictures and show that. It is very straight forward though. If you are talking about installing the factory nav hood you are a brave, brave man. Someone has done it on this forum. It is a ...process...
Yes, I used the usb and headphone jack. There is no need to use the usb if you do not want to. But I can not see a reason why you would not.
Did I cover everything?

i think so i was hoping i could get away w/ sound out via usb turning it into a better 5.1 signal or something and yes i'm doing a factory nav hood replacement wish me luck it is going to be an ordeal :D

That might help. The DIY for the nav hood. You have more than my wishes of luck.

since i really don't need the harnis or 90 percent of the functionality i'm hoping i can just find some way to power the board to just provide the tilt / open controls or maybe rotary rasp can help me come up w/ some sweet plans for a homebuilt module that will take care of that portion meh heres to hoping
