Fog lights

MikeB,

How did you change the fog lights. I just some from global premier and would like to change them while I have a chance. Can you describe how you got to them? I don't see an easy way. I thought about removing the bottom plastic plating on the underside, but before I started mucking things up, I thought I'd be a little proactive and get some advice from the experts.

Thanks!

Watch out for H11's on eBay from a seller www.nlmotoring.com .

He sent the bulbs quickly - Ill give him that but:

1. the ebay auction clearly states the bulbs are 100w and the package they came in said 100w on it as well, but when you look at the connector/bulb it says NOKIA 12A/80W

2. One of the bulbs was defective (would come on, but after 2-3mins of warming up it began to arch electically slowly then faster and faster until smoke and blown fuse!

I havent heard back from him regarding why 100w v. 80w and to send a replacement bulb (80w/100w?)

Interestingly, the package had masking tape on the edge over origional lable. perhaps some switching of bulb wattage?

The one non-defective 80w H11 does look good though.

I had talked to that guy on ebay, said the H11's lasted 18 months in his car. Just seemed alittle shady...the 5800K bulbs last usually about 3-6mths.

The guy also said they were 7000K bulbs, anything that high will blow very easily!

yep. they have been popping fuses ever since I put them in. They blow 15A easily, 20A last alittle longer.

They are very bright lights (H11's) at 80watts per side I am just under the 15A fuse rating. They are nearly as bright as the HID's.

If I can just get the guy to send me a replacement for the one that spits and archs, then maybe Ill pop in a 25A and hope the factory wiring can handle it.

If the Arctic Whites 80w keep blowing 20A fuses then I will go back to the factory 55w.

wleonard, I would try the 5800K bulbs off ebay..most folk from this thread have tried them and have been happy!

The guy who provided you with the Nokya bulbs, keep emailing - if he doesnt you are protected and can complain to ebay for a fraud item. That or perhaps if you used a credit card you can get a refund by contacting them. I've been seling on ebay for years...theres always some crook out there trying to sell shady items.

I received the bulbs on Friday, so I am giving him the benefit of the doubt on returned commuications over the weekend. If I were a seller I wouldnt want to be hounded all the time.

After several emails and a few days - if I dont hear anything or the reply is tough s$^% then I will start my wrath.

Any word on the bulb # for the dome light - not a plug in....? thanks

Edit: I guess I could get my lazy *** to pop the dome and see for myself......NM

So the parking lights in the headlight clusters (closest to badge)....

Manual says W5W

You are all saying 194's are working.

Are they both the same wedge bulb?

That's a 5 watt wedge bulb.

The 194 is listed as a 3 watter.

Hmmm

yes, 168/194 will work on the parking lights and the corner lights...

also, when changing the left parking light, you don't have to break the tie thing...just use a flat head to pry it open, it will open...

i purchased new bulbs for my car since i got sick of the purplish tint the LEDs gave out and bought Polarg bulbs...they look a lot whiter and much brighter

Yes, I broke my tie down when I changed mine, but that wasn't the most frustrating part. How did you manage to switch out the passenger side parking light without cutting up your hand in 10 different places due to the small space?

i have long fingers...trust me it took 10 minutes longer than the other side to turn it with just the tips of my fingers...getting it back in was a whole nother story...that took me about 15-20 minutes

well. I had the most fun filing a complaint on ebay for the Nokya bulbs from Next level Motoring.

Guess why all those bulbs are listed at $24.99? Other products as well....

Cause $25 is the limit that complaints can be done on sellers. If you pay for anything under $25, say $24.99 then your screwed.

Lesson learned. Caveot Emptor.

I did get the PIAA LED's for the running / parking lights. They look great.

Now to get the 5800K H11's......

something I have noticed about Mazda fog lights is that they are not very powerful. It seems to be that metal shield in the middle. My BMW had killer fog lights. You could really tell they were on. Is there a way to fix the puny light output?

I have a question...
I changed my fog lights to hyperwhites...but now i'm considering going with the super bright yellow fog lights you see a lot these days. Partially because they're much more functional and because the white kinda bores me. where should i go...or what term should i search to get h11's that are the color and super brightness i'm looking for.
