Complete Bose speaker upgrade help

Ive got a bose speaker in my passenger door that seems to have gone bad. I am contemplating replacing the whole system, but I am very confused as to what I actually need to do/purchase.

Currently, I have purchased the Meta kit. I have not purchased a head unit yet.

Exactly, what do I need to get to replace every speaker in the car? I understand that alot of the bose stuff wont work, and I basically need to start over from the head unit back. What amps and how to make tweeters, and center channels work confuses me. I would also consider adding subs to the trunk.

I am aware of speaker size adapters being required for the front.

Sorry for acting like a total n00b.

First, please read this.

That should help you quite a bit. Within that, there's a link to fix a common problem with the front door Bose speakers, here. This may not be the fix you're looking for. But people use different words to describe different symptoms. Figured if I could link you to a fix for 2 bucks and keep you from dumping $2k into a Bose upgrade (if other than that, you're happy with the Bose system), then why not.

Also as the FAQ states, those front 9" woofers and the Bose amp itself are the only two things that cannot just be swapped out for aftermarket. So if you can fix your faulty 9" woofer, then swap out the factory headunit, rear 6x9's and tweeters, maybe you'll be happy with that? Again, just giving you options before dumping a couple K into an overhaul.

If you want to go all aftermarket, you'll need a new headunit, front component set, rear 6x9's, a 4-channel amp to push them, then a 1-channel amp and subwoofer. I ran a single Kicker 5-channel to power everything for years. Loved it. Pics in sig.

How much bass you looking for? One 10"? Two 12"s? Keep in mind, once you rip out those front 9" woofers and replace them with a 6 1/2" component set, you're not going to have NEAR the amount of bass the Bose system had.

I did catch that FAQ thread but it doesn't say much about the fronts. I'm confused about the tweeters in the front and rear and the center channel. If you get a 4 channel amp, what is driving the center channel and tweeters? How does a center channel even work since no car is using a native 5.1 setup?

Also saw that relay thread. My problem is the speaker is buzzing/crackling on low frequencies, so I don't think that is it

An aftermarket component set will come with two 6 1/2" woofers, two tweeters, and two crossovers. You send one channel of audio to the crossover, it splits the frequencies up and sends each speaker its respective band. There are no tweeters in the rear. And you are correct about the center channel. There is no center channel audio, so it's pointless. Nobody uses it once the Bose amp is ditched. I forgot it was even there.

And yeah, sounds like it's blown.
