talked to 2 metra reps this weekend and from what they were saying it seems it may be out in about 2-3 months. I'm thinking September-November but I'm only speculating, it could even release the end of August for all I know but we'll just have to wait and see. The stereo shop who does all my work agreed to the group buy deal so as this gets closer to being released I can probably work something out with them, there are a couple of other avenues I'm pursuing like maybe Metra directly or one of our shops distributors helping us out or something etc. Either way, if I can set up something 8club approved that helps us out as far as getting one a little cheaper and faster then it's all good, so I'll see what I can do to help bring that to reality.

I know you never quoted a time-frame, but optimism got the better of me! I was (unrealistically) hoping for a July release! It won't be the end of the world if we don't get more details before then -- but if we do, then the anticipation might not kill me!

Argh!!! My CD player started messing up pretty bad over the weekend. It used to just get CDs stuck in it when it got hot outside (100 degrees or more). Now it skips all the time, even with brand new CDs while the car is parked it'll skip. I'm working with my Team's main vendor to see about a custom setup. Even a custom install has to cost less than the Corksport!

Life hates me.

Great job getting talks going ona group buy though! We're off to a good start. Maybe I can just get the iPod adaptor for my Touch until this is available...

You do know this thread is not about the kit that Corksport carries right?
And, from all the research I've done, no, a custom install is not cheaper than that kit.

But none of that matters. This is about the Metra Kit, and it will be much cheaper than the others.

Yes a custom install is almost always going to cost more than even the Corksport, after what we went trhough with mine my installer won't even do them anymore since it would cost a retarded amount of time and money, and it'd be cheaper and less fragile of an install to wait for this to come out. We've had to stretch wires and relocate factory components elsewhere while leaving them soldered to the factory boards etc. and somehow we made it all work, but to replicate that (and the custom dashpiece that we had professionally painted) would cost the average consumer upwards of 800 dollars if not even more as it's a very labor intensive job. (we've got tons of hours just on the dashpiece, not even counting the wiring etc.)

I know 2-3 months might seem like a long time for it to come out, but it gives some folks time to go pick up a radio and such and it'll be here before you know it anyway. I for one am pretty happy they're not just going to throw it out there asap and then fix it later after it's been released etc. like some companies do, I prefer to buy something that works right the first time right out of the box so I don't mind the wait.

We're getting closer and closer to the article being released about it as well so as soon as that's out I'll post it up.

Um yeah, that's pretty obvious, considering I can read, comprehend, and write in English, I've been following this thread since it was started, and I've read through most of the "Metra" discussions on this board already. Apparently the mere mention of another kit in this thread (even in a negative light like I did, and I'm not the first person to do so) is an offense as it is somehow grossly mistaken as an advertisement for the "other guys". I was merely musing that for close to the price of the other now-nameless-so-I-don't-get-"straightened-out"-again kit, I could just have my sponsor shop do a custom job. That wouldn't be a wise move though, especially with something this cool right around the corner.

I'm still anxiously waiting for this, but I'll just get back in line and STFU so I don't ruffle anybody else's feathers by thinking aloud.

Anyway, keep up the good work Canary! I definitely appreciate teh time and effort you've put into this project and communicating with us on it, and I'm silently rooting for you!

Well I just saw the ad/press release for it today, now I'm just awaiting the go ahead to post it, you guys are going to be stoked, they've covered all the bases as far as double/single and color and a couple of other nifty items etc.

Don't worry about mentioning other kits or options, I covered that in the first post of this thread anyway as I'm all about options, and I want people to make a wise and painless as possible choice when it comes to tossing the oem radio. The reason some folks have gotten jumped on is because they got a little defensive/cocky in their posts without taking the time to read the thread and it got out of hand a bit. I don't care what anyone mentions or shares in here as I'm confident that when this thing comes out, a lot of folks won't have to rely on other options as much anymore if at all as this will cover everybody no matter what their preference, and it will retain full oem functionality to boot, all for a lot less than corksport or a custom job and without any hassle or modding/wire cutting/whatever necessary So post whatever you like, most of us here don't care or don't mind as long as it's relevant and not ridiculous

I would think so, if anything, people might be dumping their's for pennies to get this one since it will offer slightly better fitment and a few other nifty tricks the cs one can't do.

I don't see why not, either way, the shop who does all my work can get you one if nothing else, they'd be more than happy to ship you one if you can't find it by any other means. Metra is gigantic though, so you shouldn't have a problem.

The guys I talked to at the car show I was entered in last weekend said they've still got about another 2-3 months tops, the press release I saw will be coming out in the next issue of 12volt, and hopefully they'll let me post it up here before that even drops. So figure on end of August at the earliest as my guess, I've been waiting over 4 years for something like this, so 2-3 months to me isn't nothin'

I'm really sorry man, I wish they'd let me post what they sent me but I don't want to break the connection I have or betray their trust etc. I promise as soon as I can I'll have it up, I'm just waiting to hear back from them as to when. I can probably mention they did decide to release it in 2 colors where before I believe it was only going to come in gloss/piano black. pics are coming soon, just hang in there

Me too. August will mark 4 years that I've been listening to music from my glove box. I'm still shopping around for carpc ideas.
This will be a very exciting upgrade. I'll finally get around to installing the JL Audio 300/4 I've had sitting in the garage.

I cant wait to see what it looks like and how much it's gonna cost, Ive worked with Metra Kits and Harnesses for four years working in a car audio shop, all their kits for newer cars have impressed me with their fitment and looks.

Does this new kit come with a wiring harness like the corksport kit?

also, and this is a general question, any double din unit can fit into the kit right? because after searching I've only seen people using(on the corksport) pioneer avic d3 and another unit that is way to expensive.

too answer your questions:

Yes, it will come with a harness etc., we're talking total plug and play here with added functionality over the corksport, I'm pretty much totally convinced after seeing and hearing what I've heard there will be no easier way to pitch your oem radio, plus it will be cheaper than most other options out there.

double/single din is a standard size, so any deck will work with this (as with the corksport), most people on here probably chose the D3 because it's REALLY hard to beat for the price, it's probably one of the best bang for buck double dins out right now. With the Metra you won't have to go double if you don't want too, there will be a single din kit as well. So you'll be able to go out and snag a 100 dollar deck if you want too

Poor fitment in the sense that you have two grey pieces on the sides of the double din deck with the corksport kit. I have the corksport kit and would consider that poor fitment.
