As far as getting one, these guys are huge, they sell kits worldwide, if nothing else I can help get you one through the shop who does all my work if you have trouble locating one locally.
sweet, i look forward to hearing 100% comfirmation, ill be a test mule if needed lol!
also thanks for helping out if i cant find anything locally
one more question however, as i couldnt seem to find the answer anywhere, is this compatible with the bose speakers and amp?

Well I heard back from Metra today, and here's what I got:

1. Bose will work, or you can add your own stuff. (obviously)

2. This one's important, and might be a bit of a letdown..or not

They can't confirm if it will work with overseas models or not, because all of their testing/development was done using US based cars, so their official stance is that it will not. The engineer who developed the kit (same guy I get all my info. from) said he knows there are some issues with the 6 kit overseas, and they've actually had a guy send them parts from a european 6 so they can troubleshoot/fix/etc. the problem. So it may or may not work, but their official stance is that it will not.
I'm really sorry for that as I was under the assumption it would, and it still might, but until someone tries one on a non-us model we won't know for sure since they didn't have access to one to test it during development. If someone wants to volunteer to send them parts or if anyone with a non-us model wants to help them with that I can put you in contact with them, or you might even be able to contact them directly without my help and just explain that you heard this kit might not work and you want to volunteer to help with it etc. etc. Metra's a huge company and all, but so far my experience has taught me they're not afraid to help out the "little guy" out there so I wouldn't be too intimidated as far as contacting them etc. Or as I mentioned, just pm me and I'll help get whoever connected with them. Like I said already, it might even work without issue as that happens all the time, but we won't know until someone tries it out.

phew thank god. I was starting to get worried. I want to put in a new HU but don't want to go rewiring and throwing in new speakers into every nook and cranny in the car (the car's got like 9 some odd speakers in it!).

avic D3 FTW. lol

i know this is kind of thread jacking but i have the factory nav hood, an audiocontrol line output converter hooked up to 2 amps one 4 channel and another mono amp.
i was going to have the touchscreen in the nav hood and computer in glove box outputting sound using car2pc from factory headunit, but i would much rather have the screen where this kit allows me to put it so how would i get sound from the computer to the amps using my existing setup minus factory headunit.
that was probably really confusing but help would be greatly appreciated.
thanks everyone

I will contact them tomorrow if it works with the Auto climate controls on the Us versions it should work with the AU version of the car.

If nothing else if they will send me one and agree to take it back if it does not work then I will buy one and test it for them over here.

That is awesome. And, flat black or Piano black.
The magazine article had this extra info.

All Mazda RX8 kits utilize the factory climate buttons to:
• retain all existing features of the factory HVAC (climate system)
• fully control ambient temperature display, On/Off, and Celsius or Fahrenheit reading
• allow added user-configurable text to factory display
• control functions of the engineered and supplied accurate crystal-controlled clock, both 12 and 24 hour modes
• retain HVAC control indicators to dim with headlights; backlight dims with vehicle dimmer control
• reveal HVAC status on upper display.

In addition, OEM style connecters are included for audio/ climate/ hazard/ and display connections, making it a simple plug-n-play installation.

As with all Metra products, a step-by-step instruction manual with detailed illustrations makes life easier, and software is USB updateable for application additions and/or technology improvements.

Well I hit the Metra site and got the link to the local rep for my state. I e-mailed him and he forwarded me to a retail outlet down in Texas. Called and talked to the contact person the rep dropped on me. He has the part number but no price. He stated normally with Metra once he gets the part number it takes one to two months to get the new kit and pricing.

So he stated to call him back in three weeks and we would go from there.

Take care,

Brian

Price is expected to be around the same as their G-35 kits (G35 kit (99-7604) so if you call your local installer and ask them how much that kit is (or look it up online like I did) you should get a pretty good idea of what the final price is going to be. (from a few random sites I saw it hovering around 160-175ish)

I want to see someone install this with a Bose system and not replace all the speakers. Based on the pics and short description, I'm just not clear on how that's going to work yet.

this is taken straight from the metra rep/engineer I've been talking too

" The kit will come with the harness to integrate into the Bose system. It is the same harness as most of the new Mazda's. Steering wheel controls can be done with our ASWI-X steering wheel control interface. It is a universal piece the same as PAC's"

I was actually joking when I asked about the steering wheel controls, but he answered me anyway

Wow that is reassuring. I'll definitely be getting the steering wheel control interface too.
Thanks for checking on that stuff Canary.
Now I can sleep better at night knowing my stereo install will be easy.

Would this be a hired wired connection into your deck or would it be a wireless transmitter that you have to install somewhere in the cabin....
