Smile Corksport Dash Kit, or Retractable Nav hood for CarPC?

I would like to install my CarPC

FYI: I do not have the NAV package. I do however have the Bose system.

I have researched my options for installing an aftermarket HU in my 8. The aftermarket HU would have audio/video inputs for the CarPC to connect to.

I guess from what I have read, and please add any other options that may be out there, my options are:

Corksport Dash Kit = $450.00 Bose wiring harness +$150.00 + aftermarket HU $~500.00

Retractable Nav Hood = $350.00 + PIE adaptor = $??

Are these the best options for me?

I had my mind set on the Corksport Dash Kit, until I came across the NAV option. It is less, and I keep my stock HU, but is this PIE adaptor (where do I get this???) reasonable with respect to sound?

Any info would be great!

Thanks,

Ed

IMO.. the corksport kit is the best. It can be a bit pricey, but its worth every penny. Looks stock and it doesnt sit real high up on the dash. I have mine and love it.

Do you alredy have the car PC?

You can keep your stock HU, simply use an Auxmod. This will create a line into the radio. Then you can mount the screen with the JDM part. Cheaper then going with the corksport and aftermarket HU.

Here is the link for the Auxmod.

^ See, that's what I'm talking aboot The link is bad, or the site is down, but I Google-Cached it and it looks like something I could use. And yes, I already have the CarPC fully assembled and ready for mounting. I just need something to connect it to.

rx8guy86, we've PMd already, so I knows you loves your Corksport kit Cheers!

Do not forget there is another dash kit that people have chosen instead of the corksport and its a much better price. It sits at the top of the dash and goes for $209.00 plus 40 dollars for shipping to Canada (the parts are from Japan).

Its made by Speedline International,

This is the link to the install done on Shinka's ride

here's the link to the company website.

I came to this forum with the same plan as you! I ended up going with Shinka's Set-up after seeing some of the early problems with the cocksport and I bought an Alpine D310 7" touchscreen LCD DVD player. Hooked up the iPod Video and it kicks butt.

marceldwayne, unless you post some pics, it never happened

Thanks for the links BTW, I will certainly look at that solution as well.

Cheers,

thought the pics of the unit on shinka's car were enough, those were the pics that convinced me to get it. im not sure what screen shinka had on there but its a good thread to read up on... and at least 3 others on this forum used that kit and showed pics. it ends up being allot less expensive than the Corksport by about 700 dollars after all the extra parts. You dont need to buy all that other crap u just leave the old unit in there and the heat works and everything.

What exactly do you want to see the exact same pictures but on my car!?

i need to buy a new digi camera. The iPod Video config and the Alpine screen kick butt so maybe i should show it off.

the ipod video does all that i wanted in a car pc, would let me organize concert videos, tv shows and movies into relevant playlists so that their is some randomization and theme creation to my lcd

Sounds like a very nice setup. Pics help if you have a diff HU so we see the differences between various HUs in the same kit(s).

The link was not working from work (stoopid firewall). But now from home it works fine.

Cheers all, and marceldwayne, YGPM,

Ed

It's official....I know what route I am going to take!

I ordered the Auxmod (for sound), and I'll be ordering the JDM Nav Hood thingy. I'll eBay for the touchscreen, and I'll be set.

Thanks again to all that posted and responded, very much appreciated

I'm very much in the same boat and I can't decide what to do. While I like all the options that come with a Car PC I don't want to do a lot of work myself and i'm worried about sound quality.

I really wanted the nav unit to sit on the dash so going with the corksport kit wouldn't allow that.

I guess the biggest thing for me as well is keeping the steering wheel audio controls, can anyone post how/if this can be done?

From reading the Corksport installs, and after e-mailing w/ the Corksport guys, the only way to get steering wheel mounted controls is if the aftermarket HU you buy has them.

When I go the Nav Hood route, I will be keeping the stock HU, so I will also keep the steering wheel controls. The Nav Hood will only be for video/GPS purposes, while the CarPC feeds the NAV Hood, and audio through the stock HU via the AuxMod.

Does anyone know if the JDM Dash kit will house a Clarion N.I.C.E. system?

FYI: You do not need the bose kit from corksport to get sound on a bose system. In fact, I have no idea what the bose kit from corksport actually does.

I connected the "Remote Amp Power" wire to the ACC line. I hooked up a line out 1/8" jack directly into the speaker lines on the wiring harness. Everything works fine for me.

YMMV

nope not yet, you didnt like it? I have my doubts. I would love the CarPC setup, but to be honest I dont want to do a lot of the wiring and such. I am also looking at the speedline set up as well though I dont know how much I like the big bulge in the dash. The JDM is nice and contours well with the existing dash. I have the bose system so thats limits some of the options as well.

Too bad there isnt another all-in-on that seems to fit in the JDM hood.
