Same here but I'm not worried. I still have to decide on a head unit.

the avic d3x had everything i was looking for:
1. seperate volume ****
2. none HD based nav
3. bluetooth
4. ability to add custom wallpapers
5. well known hack to get video to play while driving
6. out of the box ipod connectivity

I don't know if you can classify that as a HU. It's a car pc. But they're tight nonetheless. Just remember with pc's you have to keep them cool and in the dash right above the tranny/engine is one of the hotest spots on the 8.

not to bad mouth your choice, here are some of the reasons i dont like the pioneer

the avic d3x had everything i was looking for:
1. id rather have buttons with a larger screen, its only a 6.5 screen
2. dvd based nav hmmm, too slow, cant listen to cds and have detailed maps, slower than hd based nav
3. difficult connectivity, at least everyone i installed had problems, though eventually they did connect
4. ok
5. every dvd head unit that i know of has a hack
6. most if not all have that now

other than that, not a bad choice for the price

Bluetooth is exactly the same on every unit I've installed IMO. Even the Parrots. So it's really just the quicker response of the hard drive and a slightly larger screen.

The Z2 had a known problem of locking up occasionally due to heat. Wasn't a deal breaker for me though. It was:
the fact that the iPod interface on the D3 is SO user friendly
I NEVER listen to CDs anymore. So I could care less about the Nav on disc
The Z2 was over $1k without bluetooth and iPod cable
The D3X was $620 shipped after rebate with both bluetooth and iPod cable. About half the price and with very little disadvantages

I agree with lurch.

It is only a 6.5" screen, though it seems most of these 2 din navigation screens are. It's either 6.5 or 7".
I don't like the ****. It looks out of place.
It is a good price compared to the Z2, but I really like the HDD for the Nav and music.

got my tracking number Monday also. Still trying to decide what to do for a head unit. I only use my 8 in the summer so not sure if I'll get one with NAV or not. The JVC KW-AVX800 is going for 500 bucks. Anyone have any JVC equipment? I'm not that up to date in the new stereos.

I dont even own any CD's, so having to take out the nav disc to play one wasn't even an issue.

The DVD player was a requirement for my son, so won't need nav since I already know how to get to all the places his 5 year old whims take us.

There are so many options on double din HU's and although this wasnt the perfect choice it did meet most of the needs I had.

My big issue with HD based navs is that the ones I've had in the past have all had HD issues that needed repair. I know it's pretty rare but I've had bad luck with them so decided to steer clear this time.

All my stuff is installed.... The corksport ac/heat unit issue i had earlier has been resolved. I went with the avic d3x and I love it. I would not have minded a bigger screen but the price i paid for it you couldn't beat....

Thanks Jskup1 for the install.

If you want to see pics just click on my install thread link in my sig!

yeah cruise and everything is cool - but do yourself a favor and go ahead and get the pioneer steering wheel controller (you are getting the D3 right? (i forgot already)

i love mine - because it can control my phone and everything!

also have everything you want to install ready to go.. bluetooth, sirius, xm (for navtraffic ) or ipod connectors

let me know. Cuz i am thinking that eclipse will be better than D3 since they have double disc so i do not have to switch between NAVI and DVD. WHAT SHOULD I GO FOR? how much for install? =/ guess i am too newbie on this.

if you are planning on hooking up an iPod, or sat radio, stay away from the eclipse.

Not ipod but not sure of Sat radio. What does the sat radio do? is it same as the regular radio? .. But what if i want to have juz both DVD, NAVI , also bluetooth and navitraffic install? which should i go for? Double disc for sure rite? Also do they have the one that can flip in and out? i dun want to be like too obvious cuz people in LA often break window and steal stuff, which will be better?

Mine's built in

Only thing I don't really like is the amount the HU sticks out.... bit too much to my liking... don't think there's any way around that...
