It seems this issue was not a full blown TSB but more of FYI.. either way.. they should fix it at no cost to you. good luck

More on the exact same issue:

I'm heading in in the morning for my recall inspection, and a new defrost button. Under warranty as it should be.

UNBELIEVABLE.I took it back to this dealer and he (manager) now refuses to fix it under warranty. He is saying that i pressed it to hard or hit it while shifting and its my fault?!?!
goes on to ask me, did you buy the car here? i replied No so he says so why dont you take it to where you bought it from and walks away.......
I called mazda and told them my story and filed a complaint. As usual they are NO help, they call the dealer and speak to the a$$hole manager and the manager tells MNAO they (he looked at it for 30 seconds) inspected it and decided its not warranty work and it would cost me alot of money to fix and goes on to tell more lies.MNAO tells me i should go to another dealer and they cant do anything else.

I have the exact same problem, and the dealer ordered the necessary part for it. It will be fixed under warranty (as it should be). This is a known problem and the service advisor at my local dealership said he saw this happening several times. Right now he has another RX-8 owner who got the same issue.
The three dials are available as one assembly only. To replace it, the head unit has to be removed and disassembled.

Is there ANYONE that hasnt had this happen? From reading past threads it seems like either yours is cracked and you know it and had it fixed or its cracked and you just havent noticed it yet.
The manager didnt seem to mind fixing it under warranty at first, until he found out that he needs to order all 3 dials and cant just get the cracked one by itself. His attitude changed and he started to say he doesnt think that it would be fixed under warranty anymore. If this is such a widespread issue like it seems like it is then why hasnt there been a RECALL or even a bulletin and why does MNAO act like they dont know its a common problem....

I think I would try another dealer (if possible). My dealer had no problems replacing mine when it broke. I don't understand why the dealer gives a rat's a$$. It's not like he doesn't get paid for warranty items.

I made an appointment with another dealer, the dealer i bought the car from.they're alot more busy so i won't be going there until next month..The one i went to today, which is alot closer to me seems to think that its my fault and its not warranty work and that he will end up paying for it himself.Last time that i will be going to this dealership.

After the way you were treated, I wouldn't want that dealer to do the job anyway. If they were that rude to you, I'm sure they wouldn't give a rat's *** about how they treated your car.

Which Queens dealer are you taking it too? The one on Long Island Dr? Take it to a dealer outside of the city they'll fix it under warranty. All NYC dealers have way too much work on their hands to do that. If you give it to them for repair, you won't get it back for a month, and your going to get suzuki as a loaner.
