Crossover placement

Crossover placement
Where is everyone putting the crossovers for the fronts ?
I am ordering Bostons and the crossovers are huge.
Can I just put them in the trunk next to the amps or can someone
suggest a better choice ?
Thanks,

I originally mounted them in the doors but I changed my 2 sets component speakers & got a bigger crossover(2 corssovers together forming one). Now I'm mounting them behind the rear seats in the middle area. I'm at work so no pictures right now or you can look for the picture in my other post in this same category( since every1 is doing it here's my custom audio/video system)

I was going to order a JL Slash 300/4 for the fronts/rears.
That is only 75W rms each.
They take 140W rms.
So maybe I will get the Jl Slash 450/4.
150W rms x2 for the fronts and 75W rms x2 for the rears.
Thanks,
I'll get that amp instead.

I have the Z6's, with a JL 300/4 bridged to 2 channels. You can play them so loud your ears will bleed and your brain will liquify. I have the crossovers in the trunk in the space where the spare would normally go, along with a JL 500.1 for the sub. The two amps are exactly the right size for the space. I'll try to dig up some pictures. Right now, I'm waiting for a new JVC headunit to mount in the glovebox.

Here's a picture of the amps and crossovers in the spare tire well:
Here's the cover that goes over the amps:
And the subwoofer on top of the cover

Nice mitch. Thanks for the info and pics.
I am going to get the 450/4 and 500/1 for subs.
I'm not sure if I want to use the well like you did, or the area under the rear deck.
Questions:
What gauge wire did you use from the xovers to the fronts ?
And what did you have to take apart to get the wires into the door driver and tweeter ?
Does the whole door panel need to be removed or just the speaker cover ?
Any advice you can give me or things to look out for ?
Thanks,

I had the install done by Sound Advice. I know that the inside of the door was removed, and that they managed to snake the new wires through the wiring harness that goes into the door from the car.
The awesome thing about the Z6's is that they can handle in excess of 200 watts a piece. I originally bi-amped the speakers (75x2 to the woofers, and 75x2 to the tweets) when they were in my Mazda6, but the woofer needs more than 75 watts, and 75 watts is way too much for the tweeters. So don't bi-amp, which means you don't need a 4 channel amp.
I had the tweets mounted where the factory tweets were. Boston recommends leaving the tweets on the woofer, but when I tried that with my Maz6, the sound stage was too low.
The Z6's are brutally honest and uncolored, so a bad recording will sound bad. Some prefer silk tweets because they mellow the sound. These speakers have lots of depth and you will be pleased. However, in that price range I've been told that DLS and Focals are excellent also.

I am going with the 450/4 because I am replacing the rears also.
So 150x2 for fronts and 75x2 for rears.
I have never heard Focals.. wonder if anyone around me sells them.
I'll check.
Thanks,

TRU, this is Joseph from the stereo shop...was browsing RX8 club and noticed you were on here...I was talking to Peter yesterday and things are wrapping up on the fabrication side...pretty much the only thing left in the trunk is the piece where the capacitor sits...The rear deck had to be built up as well...Aside from that, I think the custom part is done with...

Sup Joseph, I just hope it'll get done by the 1st week of May.I just talked to Peter today & he said he has preped & primed almost everything to get it painted.Hope he finishes the trunk by this weekend. After trunk's done then build the rear deck, PS2 in glove, Dynamat extreme everything, & finally wiring everything up.Hopefully in two weeks so I can go back to bodyshop to put on the Mazdaspeed kit before the photo shoot.
