To their credit, Denison makes a good product. The possibility of bringing thier Icelink iPod middleware into this module is perfect (steering-wheel/hu audio controls integration for the iPod!). I want nothing more than that... or perhaps other than to have it shipped overnight. Let's hope it works out, and that Overload and crew get their due.

I'm not sure about the first... but at any rate, it looks to be specific to Kenwood equipment.

I sent them an email...does it really mean I'll be able to play MP3s off that Alpine changer via my OEM HU controls? See ID3 tags, etc? Do you still have use of the stock in-dash CD player?
I still want to plug in my iPod. So if this thing is using the changer interface to connect to the HU, rather than the tape module...is that an easier-to-come-by connector?

OverLOAD, did you ever get with CanZoomer on his connector source? Seems to me he went through this same thing on getting sourced for the PCM connector...

Overload, I'm guessing you wont send out any any soldering solution kits than?
Oh, one more thing.. just noticed the picture of the actual unit... Where will the rs232 port be? I'd like to be able to control my winamp with my steering wheel controls

The serial port was put on the 6-pin DIP header in the bottom-right of the picture below the MAX232 level converter. We've put it on a header for now on the dev boards. It'll probably stay that way until we change over to surface mount parts, since we're a bit pressed for space. It's also easier for our development process to use it that way.
The software is being pieced together and ported from the PC to the microcontroller. The PC was doing all the interpretation of the code to control the unit previously, and we're bringing it all into the micro to make it stand-alone. Should be any day now that the SW is completed.

oddly I got no reply on my post...
I am very interested in this part, though I don't want to steal OverLOADs thunder. Personally, I'd rather have OverLOADs piece because it has the RS232 module. But it's still up in the air at this point. OverLOAD: please let me know when a solder option is available.
Having said that, if this module does what it says, even though I probalby won't have any way of getting the steering wheel control events, I will probably go with it. I am waiting on my computer and my 1-DIN display to get installed, but once those are done the only thing left is sound and I have got to have an option A.S.A.P...
Has anyone contacted / bought / verified that this thing works in the RX8 as an AUX-in module?

However, like I already said, I don't know how it works, If you have the OEM CD changer, you might not be able to use it, or even your factory mp3 CD player or single CD player.. Until someone gets it and plugs it in, there's just no telling.
However, I may in the future experiment with it as well, once I'm satisfied with the tape deck replacement module for Aux-in.

OverLoad maybe you should set up your own web site now with pics and specs and status updates etc etc, and eventually when they are read to be sold you could sell them through the site too

If the PIE product supports Alpine MBUS CD changers, it's likely that the MBUS variant of the Dension ice>Link:iPod interface will work with it and manage play/pause/FF/RW of the iPod as well as charging through the active cradle.

with that Alpine aux-in you'd get audio only, that plus is for a CD changer, not an iPod, so unless you can find an adapter you'd have to use that adapter that converts to the RCA plugs, then you've just spent $80 for the part and who knows how much time, when you could've just bought an FM modulator, hate to say this overload but I know Alpine's coming out with a line of iPod ready stuff, and it might actually be an aux input like you're working on they're holding onto the stuff until later this summer

Ya know, some of us don't have an iPod, nor are we planning to get one. I, for instance want an aux-in to use with a Rio Karma and with a Nomad Jukebox 3 (not at the same time). Don't need to do any control of the units, just take the audio feed and play the bloody thing through the stock stereo unit.
Nothing against the iPod; I considered buying one, but opted for the Rio Karma for reasons of my own.
