56 000 * 50 (assuming everyone gets the lower value mod) = 2, 800, 000

They'd be millionaires! Sheesh.

I'm goona give the CD Player input mod a try soon as I get around to it. The problem is, where to put the ipod. I can get a line out right out of the 12V adapter, then run its dock connector cable to my center console. OR, I could plug the 12V into the center console, and run the cable to a dock somewhere, and get the line out out of the dock. Only problem is I can't think of anyplace to put the iPod's dock where it won't really be in the way. Also if anyone has a link to some radio-removing directions, that would be appreciated. Thanks :-D

Here are instructions on removing the audio module. I ran the audio aux-in into the forward cupholder. My iPod sits there and gets AC from an adaptor plugged into the utility power plug. There are a couple of low-profile power adaptors for the iPod that use the dock connector for line-out audio (mine is made by Monster.)

I have a belkin adapter, I was thinking about wiring it through the lighter but keeping it behind the dash and out of site, and getting the line out out of that, then running its dock connector to my center console. I'd really like to use my dock though, I just don't think I can. Thanks for the radio instructions though, Hopefully I don't kill anything :-D

When I reassembled everything during my first install attempt, I thought I had killed my head unit... I had no LED display, no radio, and no indicators on the center console. It was quite disconcerting.

The problem, as it turned out, was that I had failed to properly seat the audio assembly into the console control faceplate (there is a pair of connectors.) I applied some gentle pressure, reassembled everything, and breathed a sigh of relief.

Well, Just to reassure everyone who's watching. We are still working on the module. The software has become quite a daunting project to do it 'properly' and work within the Mazda bus spec.

We are making headway, but it's not done yet. Between having a full time job, and a life outside of my RX-8 (I know, shame on me) My partner and I have had a very limited amount of time to work on the module lately, not to mention traveling out of state the last 2 out of 3 weekends.

It will still be a bit of time yet before we're done I'm afraid, and I don't want to get anyones hopes up and let you down. We will persist, but just want to let everyone know that this is a very time consuming project, but at the same time it's very rewarding. We're working on it, and are slowly getting all the core modules of the software completed.

Thanks for your patience & regards,

OverLOAD

Patience is a virtue

Hey Overload,

Thanks for the heads up. I'm not in a rush and I'm totally jazzed about your final product. I know it will be worth the wait with the careful attention and effort you and your partner are pouring in.

Geez... I'm not really in a rush either, but waiting for five months now kinda wears my patience thin :D
Oh well... I guess I need to wait a bit more. Wish I'd know how much more.

Thanks for the update OverLOAD, and as you're the one doing all the work, the least I can do is be patient.
Thanks again.

I too feel the loss. I can only hope that the silence is caused by ongoing negotiations between OverLOAD and those who would produce the module. A cone of silence hopefully to be followed by an announcement. I keep holding off on an alternative "solution" . . . but the wait must end soon. Summer is upon us and the road beckons.

It doesn't have to be that way if you are willing to do some digging and some work. You can get FM radio via several different solutions. Steering wheel controls can be wired in via serial or I think USB as well. Check out mp3car.com and do a search. I know that there are many threads on these two subjects.

Yes, I am aware of this, but I'm holding to get this mod instead. Whenever released, it will solve all my problems. I just hope it will be released within next month, or two, at most three :p

I appreciate all the attention on this thread, and without a doubt, we're working on trying to get everything figured out. Unfortunately with less and less time avialable to work on the project. As I've said before, If you really can't wait, buy a tape module and use it for the hack. It'll turn out nice, but you still won't have all the integrated controls.

Anyway, I'm feeling kind of bummed out about not getting this thing off the ground after about 6 months of working on it, as you can guess. I'm thinking that perhaps open source software might further the effort and benefit the greater good. Still up for debate though.

Regards,

OverLOAD

OverLOAD: If you do decide to go through the open source route.. How hard would it be to flash the proc's with the software. If (and most likely) all it requires is a custom fab. cable to provide data and some status pin to short, than I'd be all over this testing / trying to help with the software.

That of course means that you sell the modules without the soft for time being.

Open source it, you have my support. You don't lose anything as you are selling the hardware, while we all benefit from faster and better firmware. I would help coding, although I'm not too good with ASM.

Just open a project on SourceForge and you are set... if you want a website for it, I can host you one too And keep up the good work, I can't wait for the Aux-In in my Mazda3 :D
