Custom Car PC (Android)
So I am going to be starting to create my Custom Car PC. It will be using a stock Nav hood which will be equipped with a Android tablet - One of the extremely cheap Chinese ones. I will be disassembling it and re-wiring all [U]necessary[U] buttons and hook-ups so that only the screen will be visible.
It will be using the Torque App for Android devices as well; this will be the main point of it. (If you don't know what the Torque App is, search it up, its pretty neat)
Because I will be re-wiring the micro/mini USB and other buttons and such, it will also act as a music, video and picture player when not connected to the OBDll via bluetooth - I will be streaming such content on that screen as well as to my Pioneer AVCIC-Z110BT. And of course, it will be capable of having any of the Android applications on it as well, I will be using either 2.1 or 2.2, whichever runs smoother respectively.
Once all parts are in and I start this, I will be posting pictures and a DIY.

Subbed!
I just got my '04 and I'm obviously unimpressed by the stock Navi. My Evo 4g w/ Cyanogen Mod and Google Navigation blows it out of the water... but thats what 8 years will do.
If this turns out well enough, i'm going to look into doing this.

Sounds like fun Can't wait to see it. I think a 7" Tab would be perfect for this. I plan on doing something similar, but I want a NICE tab with a detachable option. No more tearing into my dash....just want to find a good mount and invasive power supply. Not anything I'm doing atm, just tossing around ideas.

No, I will be using it also for video, audio, etc. as stated in first post. It is android so I will most likely put games and what not on it as well - There is a way to splice into the touch panel to connect a external touch-only panel to use for gaming if I desire.
I have a Pioneer double-din DVD/Nav deck, so some stuff I won't be using, but like said, its Android so I will use it to the full potential

I'll let you know which way I decide to go down

^ I am not sure yet. If I decide that it will be completed mounted in the car, follow this link for some cheap ones:

If I decide to go with the detachable option (Seeming more and more appealing), then I will get something like the Galaxy Tab, Blackberry Playbook, etc.

I built an awesome windows 7 computer for my RX8 using a 7" Touchscreen in the dash $200 + a Mini-ITX system using an AMD Athlon X2 in the trunk. It integrates with my in-dash Pioneer touch head unit and does everything you can think of from interfacing with ODBII, Bluetooth, USB GPS adapter, camera's, internet, etc. Check out early stage photos here: http://db.tt/PmVfPgp
