Custom Fiberglass Boxes

I have been working alot with custom fiberglass boxes now. I recently have been toying with my rocketship and decided to remove the bulky, nasty looking sub box in my trunk.

I then decided instead of doing my school work to mask off and make a mold in the corners of the trunk of my rx-8.

Through the next couple of days i will be uploading where i am at so far along with the boxes, I will be inserting a 12" ring angled t-wards the cab. Also porting the boxes, and mounting the amp somewhere breatheable (Possibly next to port) = ]
Any suggestions you guys have, criticisim or anything is welcome id love to improve in what ever area.

Most of the pictures of the mold i wasnt to concerned with removing all the masking tape and was just snapping pictures when ever i took a breather. These boxes are SOLID and was thinking about after the final product maybe selling a few sets. I will continue posting pictures maybe a video if i have time to keep everyone posted. I plan to possibly paint boxes red // black and have a holister on top for a book or 2.

Looks great.

What's with the circular cutout/gray grills in each corner of the box? Please don't tell me that's suppose to be a port....

You. Have. No idea. What you've done.

Simply drilling a hole in a sealed box does not a ported box make. A port or vent is a duct of air, usually, inside the box.

The length of the port will vary based on enclosure size, subwoofer performance and output desire. Lengthening the port will lower the tune of the box giving better low frequency extension and will generally flatten the response curve, at the cost of overall output. Shortening the port will basically do the opposite (give you a loud and peaky output). You basically have a super leaky sealed box.

The worst part about this is that there is ZERO chance you can add a port inside that box. Despite being a royal PITA now, the box is far too small. You essentially made some awesome looking fiberglass subwoofer boxes.... then chopped a hole in them. I suggest finding a similar looking cover, that will actually plug the hole.

And lastly, not sure where you bought your supplies from, but $350 is OUTRAGEOUS. I made a box for two 15"s with knytex bi-axil for less than that.

i was gunna say, it looked like a drilled out hole and vents ...

not to mention that if you want to really go the route of putting flared or slotted ports in your enclosure, it is in your best interest to really smooth out the inside of the enclosure of sharp edges and hard bends.

Okey so we've sealed the vent with appoxy, with some clingwrap lining the inside so dosent splurge out the front we will appoxy the vent to box aswell for air tight lock.

interesting method with the kitty liter, garbage bag, and vacuum... never seen that before! did you apply some sort of mold release? id imagine the bag being stuck to the FG and being a PITA to peel off....

nice job

No actually just left the vacs running for about 15 mins (for the flash) then put in the sun for about 45 mins (cook a little more) and the bag TO MY BIGGEST surprise just peeled off, actually easier than the tape from the corner mold. Thanks !
