i have a 10inch W3 in my trunk pointing up and it sounds good and really no rattling. I have the spare tire in mine so i put the sub and box in the indented part and the amp is behind the spare tire.

I also have a 10W7 laying around. I don't want to give up the pass thru between the seats. I'm having trouble getting a box design large enough, but still able to fit it in the trunk. Once the weather gets a bit better, I'm going to take out a rear seat and see what can be stuck in that way, instead of trying to go thru the narrow opening in the trunk.

A 10" w7?! I haven't heard a 10" w7, but one 8" w7 is ridiculously loud, I would save some money and some trunk space and try a w6, perhaps. I think there are good plans for a 10" install on one side of the trunk somewhere...

Yah, im dreading loosing all my trunk space. I play ice hockey and my bag barely fit in the trunk, but i can get the w7 and amp for 700 even(long story but neither is out of the box). So i really hate to pass up a deal like that.

I know of a 10W7 in an escort with a jl 500/1. it's awesome.
I'm not sure how you'd get a hockey bag in there. I just ordered a smaller racquetball bag because i got tired fighting my large tour bag thru the opening in the trunk.

I have also been considering mounting one in the side pocket using the fiberglass box molded to the contours. Again, I'm not going to mess with it until the weather gets a bit better. I've not calculated voulme for that. THere are some examples in the auido section that did this. looks pretty good.

yah i have a friend that has a 13 w7 in a jeep its a little dominating over his factory speakers but the subwoofer itself sounds extremely clean.
It was a fight to get my bag in there i started just putting it behind the passinger seat.
I thought about mounting it in a side pocket too but i think its too deep for it to look clean. Unless you mounted it backwards. Could that possibly work? I also thought about having it mounted strait up in the space where by the back window.

There was a guy that put a 10' Diamond sub in a custom box between the seats, and used the pass thru cover (cut out for woofer). The box sold with the woofer on ebay. It really looked nice. I don't know what the box volume was tho. That would work, you could take it out if needed. What I didn't like tho was that you could see a 10" woofer if you looked. It kinda tells people you have something to steal.

That was me... here is a picture of it.
Some corrections: it was an 8" Diamond sub, and the cover wasn't made of using the passthrough box. Instead, it was an MDF box and a fiberglass bezel. I liked the way it looked (a lot, actually) but wasn't perfectly happy with the sound (didn't go deep enough - big surprise there ), so I sold it and got myself a 10" Kappa Perfect in a 4080 box instead.

Thx for clearing that up Tamas. I remember seeing it just before your auction ended. What was the volume of the box? Do you think it would have sounded better if it faced the trunk instead of in cabin? Or do you htink you could have had a better result using a JL 8W7?

I don't remember the volume of the box itself, but it was pretty small. I think it might have been a bit less than the recommended volume for that particular sub... somewhat "form over function" if you will
So that probably contributed to the sound not being as deep as I hoped. Or maybe if it's a ported box instead of sealed - who knows. But for ported, the woofer called for a larger box volume if I'm not mistaken.

Also, honestly, I have no idea if it would have sounded better facing the trunk or using a JL sub. Actually, the shop who built this for me recommended the Diamond over the JL, but that might have been because they are a Diamond distributor, who knows. I'm the first to admit that I don't know enough about these things to make such decisions, so just went with the shop's recommendation.

Don't get me wrong, the sound wasn't BAD - just not deep enough.

I'm not sure what you mean by "use" the passthrough. The door is still there and if I open it the back of the box is about 6" in on the other side.

I don't remember the exact box dimensions, I could go measure it if you want to know, but the volume was 1.5cu.ft.

rkostolni,

For use of the pass thru, I need to still slide my water ski thru there.

Tamas,

I checked with a buddy of mine who's in the stereo biz when I saw you diamond sub on ebay. I'd never heard of Diamond. What he told me is theyr were great products. So I'm guessing the dealer gave you a good rec
ommendation.
