Custom subwoofer enclosure Install. Pictures!

Hey guys. Well I was home last weekend and was bored. So I was snooping around the garage and noticed I had a good amount 3/4 MDF. I had my subwoofer and amp lying around from my last car so I figured what the hell. Lets get creative! I broke a pad and got to drawing.

My plan was to build a semi false floor and incoorporate the hole in the floor. I made two rails to run along either side of the trunk floor. Which didnt work at first because it ends up the floor isnt flat, so I had to make a stencil. I finally got the two rails cut out and they hugged the contour of the floor quite nicely.

(the box is pre-assembled out of the trunk because MDF splits really easily. So I tapped all of the screws first and screwed it all down so that when I re-mad it in the trunk I would know where to put the screws)

I cut out a rail to fit inbetween the two side rails at the front of the trunk and test fit everything.

Now with the three walls taken care of I had to make the last wall that would fill in the hole in the floor. This part was the toughest. I had some spare MDF, so i drew a bogus line of what I thought the curve might look like, then I adjusted off of that. Eventually I finally had both sides cut out to make the floor then I screwed it all togather.

I fit the frame into the trunk and bolted it down with some L brackets and Metal tapping screws. With the frame secure, I lined the floor with painters tape and sealed the entire perimeter with some silicone caulk.

Being the top board is really big, it would not fit into the trunk if it were just one peice. So I had to cut it into two. I fit the first board in and screwed it all down. I then cut the hole for the subwoofer in the second board. I put two strips of MDF in the box connecting the two sections of the top board for added strength. I screwed the second half of the top on and that is where I am currently standing.

(Im aware the two top boards dont appear to be flush. Thats because nothing was screwed down yet. I was just excited to get it in and see how it looked)

For some reason the pictures make the box seem much bigger than it really is. I will admit it does take some space but there is still a good amount of space left!

When I sold my last car I didnt care to take the power or ground wire out so I need to buy a new amplifier wiring kit. Other than that I just need to carpet it or cover the box with something. The box comes out to about 2 cubic feet. I wasnt terribly worried as long as it were around that. The parameters of the subwoofer suggest 1.5-2.5 sealed so I'm doing good. The convenient thing with my amp is it doesnt need a RCA line and Pilot wire from the HU to work. All i need to do it tape the right and left channels of the rear speakers wth some RCA cables and plug them into the amp. The amp's left channel acts as a pilot once the car's electric system is turned on. So all I need to do is run a power wire from the battery to the trunk. And the rest is cake!

Question though, I haven't bothered researching for a possible route for the power cable. Any suggestions? I didnt see any gromets, then again I didnt really look. lol.
