I think I'd prefer the slot in DVD/CD to be below the screen....

Looks great compared to every other alternative I have seen to date...I would be very interested in having this in my 8...what kind of price range are we looking at for the mold and carputer?? Also I'm curious how tough the install would be from a shop perspective since it would kinda bump the price up a bit. If this thing is a a $2k plus mod then I'm getting a Vertex lang body kit instead and improvising with a PSP mounted in the sunglasses holder...

Not near that expensive. It's really going to vary from set up to set up. We are working on some prices to integrate our screen as a package deal with the dash piece. I know that our screens are cheaper than almost any other screen that is new.

For most pricing information on systems, take a look at our site. RX8Club discounts are coming soon. Our screens will run about $180 for RX8 Club owners (U.S shipping included). We haven't settled on a price for these dash pieces due to the difficulty of producing. We are guessing (this is not final) about $250 for the mold.

Seems like you guys may have finally solved my biggest problem with the 8!?!?!

Ok, so, next questions.

Can you figure out some finishes that produce "more OEM" looks?

Can we get some better pics of the new AC control mounts?

And some higher quality pics?

We are planning on the finish to be the OEM Piano Black. If you want a special order color/texure that would extra.

We are still working on the AC control mount as well as AC control extension cable.

Once we finish a mold we will post good pics.

The pics so far have been machup peices, not actual finish.

Please be patient and we will keep yall in the loop!

How come you decided to make the one in the dash instead of the one on the top, which had the most votes? Or are you still planning on making it?

Unfortunately not. Our primary focus is getting our screens in the RX-8. We are also working on a few other cars (Civic and Mustang for example), so we have to limit the number of different sizes we work on.

Our pieces will be guaranteed to fit our 7" or 8"touchscreen depending on the piece you order. Our flip up piece will fit a 7" screen and our in-dash (as shown) will be fitted for a 7" screen.

The in-dash piece was originally for personal use. That project had already began before the poll was placed. We were debating on which mold to produce, but we will probably do both.

We are still trying to get a feel for what is most popular or needed.

Can a carputer not use a 2 DIN size monitor? That way you can keep the factory climate controls where they are and keep the ash tray/cigarette lighter.

Yes, but a motorized screen would be the best way to go there. We have some concepts of a complete double DIN carputer. 1 DIN for the Carputer, and one DIN for the screen. This will be a universal fit, rather than giving it an OEM look.

woooooweeeee dasss perrrty.

Thanks for the hard work guys....though you tease us with this pics. I think you will definately make a profit off of this board alone. You should talk to dealerships and see if they can offer it as an additional option at time of purchase (they get a small cut).

Thanks for responding. The reason why I am so persistant that you consider doing a 2 DIN setup is because I am very interested with an Eclipse aftermarket headunit and have Nav as well. It sort of kills two birds with one stone for me where I don't have the OEM nav. Here is what my dream system looks like. Click here.

We may offer a 2-din mold in the future. We are going to see how the popular ones go. We are also going to have to be careful on the 2-din because they already have that one available and is probably patened. We might end up making these as a "custom" peice.

You know what might be a bit different and cool, instead of a screen that comes out and up (above the vents) is one that comes out and down, covering the head unit (since presumably the touch screen would control the parts below that anyway).

So in essense just reversing the mechanism. You could do this above the vents (they could be used to cool the screen) or just below them.

Sure, and that would block the air vents and the stock display for the radio.
I don't think that's a good idea.

Keep in mind the one you are seeing in the pictures is a pretty custom job, and takes the place of the factory head unit. However, I've been using it for a couple weeks now and I love it. I've got so many complements on it.

No if the Nav/Carputer/media system controled the stock system (override) it would merely replace it but when retracted would have a low impact on the appearance for security purpses etc. The vents could be rerouted or as I mentioned it would go in below.

I like the DVD loading on the bottom instead of at the top.

I'm not familiar with the software that runs these carputers, but can the display be customized to be red with a black/blacklight background, to match the gauages and the existing led display for the radio/ac controls?
