We should get the email of a big time supervisor over @ MNAO Customer service and send them all the emails we've collected over the past TWO years on this issue.

See if they can make sense of all the conflicting things they've sent us in that time.

August is rapidly coming to an end and still no update. If they ever issue the update it will be old from the get-go. But I really don't expect anything until August '06 which is what they meant when they originally said August.

Here is the latest and the greatest that I have heard. Just got off of the phone with Stacie at Mazda North America (ext 118) and she says that they are beginning the distribution of teh Operational Software Updrades, (not the maps). If you look at the following email, NAVTEQ is now saying that the release for the map upgrades will not be until mid-to-late-Sept. We'll see!!

Melinda,

We're expecting a new version to be released by mid- to late-September
at the latest. When this new version is available, you can contact us
at 888-628-6277 to purchase it.

If you could take a moment to complete a brief survey regarding the
quality of service you received, it would be much appreciated. Please
click on the link below:

Your feedback will be used to monitor and improve the level of service
we provide our customers every day.

MrsJacksonrx8,

PLEASE tell me you let them HAVE IT on that survey...

Every time we put pressure on MNAO / Navteq, all they do it change the date on us.

This is a bit of touchy subject for me because I ordered my new '05 (due to arrive next week) and I'm STILL getting a P.O.S map disk that is 3 YEARS old.

Sorry for venting...

I wonder at what point Mazda will realize they are losing Nav (and possibly car) buyers due to their inability to produce this disk. How many people have been convinced to skip the Nav option because of this thread?

DO YOU HEAR THAT MAZDA? I'll repeat it in terms you may understand: People in this thread, as well as others, will be spending $2000 less IF they buy another Mazda.

ahhh f-it just tell us...and say it is pure speculation

if it involves replacing our nav unit I wouldn't be suprised since this is total BS and there aren't that many RX-8 nav owners anyway

wallet ready? I think you mean our burners ready...**** mazda on this one

someone has got to figure out how to make a copy of this funky SDAL disc (different from the original map disc)

Sounds good to me! I am deployed in Southeast Asia until late October, so I can wait a little longer. But I plan on doing some traveling upon my return so It would be nice if all the updates that they have been promising are available!

I'm with Truemagellen: SOMEONE on this forum has to be able to crack this thing.

djesto: did they give a price range? Is still believed to be around $199?

cracking it is not the problem (well it is, since theres very few rx8 NAV owners to begin with), it's buring it. you'd need proprietary authoring software, burning hardware, and media. all of wich would surely amass to a sum greater than any of us would be willing to pay. you can't just burn the data to a DVD+/-R since we all know that DVD player wont read standard DVD. sega did the same thing with the dreamcast, but the dreamcast had a serial port to pull data off and was also able to play standard CDs.

I just got off the phone w/ NavTeq.

They are not actually taking "orders" for the new map disc yet, but they are taking "pre-orders".

Basically you give them your information. They warn you that you need the Application update "first". And they will call you once the new disc is "ready" for actual ordering.

holy crap, can it be??

My car gets here next week and I get the feeling my dealership won't be willing to pay for my new disc so looks like I too will be shelling out the $199.

I've talked to some fellow SoCal drivers w/ the nav and apparently the data for my area is pretty outdated.

Jedi54, well you could try to "convince" the dealer that a new car shouldn't require a map "update".

I'm not sure how much they'll care though.. (but pointing them to the NavTeq website and the message that an update is available might be enough.)
